Objective: To explore high-risk behaviors and experiences with traffic law among night drivers in Curitiba, Brazil. Method: Data from 398 drivers on sociodemographic parameters, high-risk behaviors, experiences with traffic law, and traffic law violations were collected through interviews conducted at sobriety checkpoints. Exploratory-descriptive and analytical statistics were used. Results: The mean age of the participants was 32.6611.2 years (range, 18 to 75 years). Half of the drivers reported having driven after drinking in the last year, predominantly single men aged 18 to 29 years who drive cars and drink alcohol frequently. Only 55% of the drivers who had driven after drinking in the last year self-reported some concern about being detected in a police operation. Conclusions: A significant association was found between sociodemographic variables and behavior, which can help tailor public interventions to a specific group of drivers: young men who exhibit high-risk behaviors in traffic, such as driving after drinking alcohol, some of whom report heavy alcohol consumption. This group represents a challenge for educational and enforcement interventions, particularly because they admit to violating current laws and have a low perception of punishment due to the low risk of being detected by the police.

Introduction: Urban transit accident are a global public health problem. The objective of this study was to describe the profile of the victims and the occurrences of urban transit accidents attended to by emergency mobile care services (Serviço de Atendimento Móvel de Urgência-SAMU) in Recife, and their distribution based on spatial analysis. Methodology: An ecological study, developed through secondary data from emergency mobile care services in Recife, referring to the total number of occurrences of urban transit accidents attended to from January 1 to June 30, 2015. The spatial analysis was performed using the Moran index. Results: Basic support units performed most of the emergency services (89.2%). Among the victims, there was a predominance of males (76.8%) and an age group of 20 -29 years old (31.5%). Collisions were responsible for 59.9% of the transit accidents, and motorcycles for 61.6% of the accidents among all means of transportation. Friday was the day that showed the highest risk for treatment, and there was a concentration of events between 6:00 am -8:59am and 6:00pm -8:59pm. The MoranMap identified critical areas where calls came from traffic accidents during the period analyzed. Discussion: The records of the mobile service from the spatial analysis are an important source of information for health surveillance. Conclusion: The spatial analysis of urban transit accidents identified regions with a positive spatial correlation, providing subsidies to the logistical planning of emergency mobile care services. This study is groundbreaking in that it offers such information about the region.

Estimativas indicam que milhões de pessoas morrem por ano em decorrência de acidentes de trânsito. Por se tratar de um assunto tão sério que, muitas vezes é negligenciado pelas autoridades políticas, o presente estudo teve como objetivo analisar as principais causas dos acidentes automobilísticos nas rodovias federais da Bahia, considerada uma das regiões mais violentas quando o assunto é trânsito. Como material de investigação foi analisado o relatório de acidentes produzido pela Superintendência Regional da Bahia da Polícia Rodoviária Federal no período de 2014 e 2017. Os dados foram tabulados no Software Estatístico SPSS e analisados posteriormente. As causas foram agrupadas em categorias semelhantes. Os resultados mostram que, apesar do número de acidentes em 2017 ter reduzido quando comparado aos anos de 2014 e 2015, os acidentes tornaram-se mais graves na região e estiveram associados com uma maior porcentagem de óbitos. Os dados também indicam que os eventos em que havia ocorrido o consumo de álcool ou de substâncias psicotrópicas são mais graves e produzem um número maior de óbitos. Considerando as categorias apresentadas, a “atitudes imprudentes do condutor” foi a principal causa dos acidentes nas rodovias federais da Bahia no período analisado, principalmente, em decorrência do desrespeito às leis de trânsito.
