Domestic violence and the role of the dentist from the public health perspective: a review of scientific literature

This study systematically reviewed the systematic production about domestic violence, based on the professional practice of the dentist in a multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary context, from the perspective of public health. The goal was to verify how this issue has been addressed, identify which is the most explored focus, and point out possible gaps. The search was conducted in the Virtual Health Library (BVS Brazil), by selecting 40 articles: 37 on Lilacs, 2 in BBO and only 1 in SciELO, from 2000 to 2011. Of the total scientific production analyzed, 20% references have cited the dentist along the paper, among these 50% pointed for the practice of the dentist in a multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary context, from the perspective of public health. The health professional role in a multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary context, from the perspective of public health corresponded to 72.5% studies. In this way, the need for studies on the performance of professional dentist in interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary team is necessary before the Brazilian context, being an open and wide field to be explored, from the perspective of public health.Key words: domestic violence, dental surgeon, public health Violencia doméstica y el papel del dentista desde la perspectiva de salud pública: una revisión de literatura científicaResumen: Este estudio revisa sistemáticamente lo publicado sobre violencia doméstica, basado en la práctica profesional del dentista en un contexto multidisciplinario e interdisciplinario, desde la perspectiva de salud pública. El objetivo consiste en verificar cómo ha sido abordado este tema, identificar cuál es el foco más explorado y señalar posibles vacíos. Se realizó la investigación usando la Biblioteca Virtual de Salud (BVS Brasil), seleccionando 40 artículos: 37 en Lilacs, 2 en BBO y solamente 1 en SciELO, del 2000 al 2011. Del total de la producción científica analizada, 20% de la referencias han citado al dentista en el artículo; entre estos, 50% señalan la práctica del dentista en un contexto multidisciplinario e interdisciplinario, desde la perspectiva de salud pública. El papel del profesional de la salud en un contexto multidisciplinario e interdisciplinario desde la perspectiva de salud púbica correspondía al 72,5% de los estudios. The number of homicides in Brazil has reached record numbers, and when the race/colour of the victims is considered-an extreme inequality is evident- with a particularly high number of deaths in black and brown populations. The goal of this work was to analyse homicide rates of black people in Brazil from the years 2000 to 2016, using generalized additive regression models, with a geo-spatial component. The statistics were applied to understand the social reasons for homicide risks in the black population in Brazil’s 26 states and Federal District with reference to the human development index and its components (education, longevity and income) as well as social inequality indices (Gini and Theil). This socioecological, epidemiological study to estimate the risk of homicide in the black population with a time series component, shows that this risk has increased linearly over time. Less longevity and low income correlated with a greater risk of homicide-while the Gini and Theil indices showed that in places where there are greater inequalities, there is also a higher risk of homicide in both black and non-black populations. The results - regarding the possibility of relating social indicators to homicide risk in the regional units under study, would support implementation of interventional public policy measures.

RESUMOO objetivo deste estudo foi analisar os papéis masculinos e femininos expressos por mães de meninas vítimas de violência intrafamiliar. a perspectiva de gênero relacionada à manutenção e ao enfrentamento desse tipo de violência também foi avaliada. Participaram do estudo nove mães, com idades entre 26 e 68 anos, atendidas em uma instituição em teresina, Piauí. Foram realizados três encontros nos quais eram usadas técnicas projetivas, corporais e psicodramáticas. Os resultados apontaram que concepções machistas passadas pelas mães no processo educativo, a constante associação da representação masculina como uma figura violenta e o não reconhecimento das mães sobre suas capacidades são fatores relevantes para a manutenção da violência. É importante que, no contexto da violência, intervenções abordem temas como cidadania e o conhecimento de serviços e políticas públicas, a fim de protegerem e empoderarem as mulheres e suas filhas no enfrentamento da violência.Palavras-chave: feminino; masculino; violência de gênero; submissão.
