Production of quality seedlings with high survival rate in the environment for reforestation purposes still faces many obstacles, especially with respect to mineral nutrition. In this study, we aimed to evaluate the response of mahogany (Swietenia macrophyla) seedlings to the supply of P and base saturation in a Typic Hapludox (Oxisol) with sandy layer surface. We used a completely randomized experimental design with four phosphorus rates (0, 50, 100 and 150 mg dm -3 of P), with Arad phosphate rock source, with two base saturation levels (natural at 25% and corrected to 45%) and three replications. We assessed the following parameters: soil chemical attributes, stem diameter, plant height, root dry matter, aerial part dry matter, total dry matter, and aerial part dry matter/root dry matter ratio. The content of P in the soil increased with P supply levels, in the absence and presence of liming, respectively. Liming improved soil attributes and the growth of mahogany seedlings. The combination of liming with phosphorus fertilization positively influenced plant height and aerial part and total dry matter. In the absence of liming, P doses as from 100 mg kg

Most tropical soils have high acidity and low natural fertility. The appropriate application of lime and cattle manure corrects acidity, improves physical and biological properties, increases soil fertility, and reduces the use of chemical and/or synthetic fertilizers by crops, such as soybean, the main agricultural export product of Brazil. This study aimed to assess the effects of the combination of the application of dolomite limestone (0, 5, and 10 Mg ha −1 ) and cattle manure (0, 40, and 80 Mg ha −1 ) on grain yield and the chemical properties of an Oxisol (Red Latosol) cultivated with soybean for two consecutive years. The maximum grain yield was obtained with the application of 10 Mg ha −1 of lime and 80 Mg ha −1 of cattle manure. Liming significantly increased pH index, the concentrations of calcium (Ca 2+ ) and exchangeable magnesium (Mg 2+ ), and cation exchange capacity (CEC) of soil and reduced potential acidity (H + + Al 3+ ), while the application of cattle manure increased pH level; the concentrations of potassium (K + ), Ca 2+ , and exchangeable Mg 2+ ; and CEC of the soil. During the 2 years of assessment, the greatest grain yields were obtained with saturation of K + , Ca 2+ , and Mg 2+ in CEC at the 4.4, 40.4, and 17.5 levels, respectively. The results indicated that the ratios of soil exchangeable Ca/Mg, Ca/K, K/Mg, and K/(Ca+Mg) can be modified to increase the yield of soybean grains.

O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar o efeito da aplicação de diferentes fontes de Ca2+ no solo sobre o teor deste nutriente no solo, nas folhas e nos frutos, e sobre atributos físico-químicos e conservação pós-colheita da uva 'Vênus' (Vitis labrusca x V. vinifera). O delineamento foi em blocos ao acaso, com quatro repetições. Utilizaram-se os seguintes tratamentos: T1 - testemunha (sem aplicação de Ca2+ no solo); T2 - cloreto de cálcio; T3 - gesso agrícola; T4 - Nitrabor®; T5 - cal hidratada, e T6 - borra de celulose. Para todas as fontes, aplicou-se o equivalente a 80 kg de Ca2+ ha-1, parcelados em três aplicações, a cada 21 dias, a partir do início da brotação da videira. Avaliou-se o teor de macronutrientes no solo, nas folhas e frutos. Na maturação, foram coletados quatro cachos por parcela, sendo dois cachos avaliados por ocasião da colheita e dois cachos mantidos sob temperatura ambiente e atmosfera modificada, sendo avaliados após cinco dias. Em geral, as fontes de Ca2+ proporcionaram maior teor de Ca2+ no solo, nas folhas e nos frutos. O Nitrabor® e o gesso agrícola aumentaram o peso médio de bagas. As fontes de Ca2+ reduziram a perda de peso, o degrane e a incidência de podridões dos frutos em pós-colheita.
