Show more

“…The increase in cervix dilation is gradual, as it increases, so uterine contractions and pain sensation becomes more evident. (19,27) According to Guyton and Hall, (27) delivery may be defined as a sequence of coordinates and involuntary uterine contractions which result in the progressive cervix dilation, leading to the expulsion of the fetus.…”

“…(18) The TENS group received technical intervention by placing adhesive type electrodes 4 cross-art in the paravertebral region between T10 and L1, because it is more effective to reduce pain frames present in the lower abdomen and lower back. (19) The apparatus used was TENS 993, Quark ® brand, applied to a frequency of 150 Hz, pulse duration of 80 μs and the intensity was determined according to the account of each patient. The application occurred for 20 minutes at 20 minutes intervals until the parturient reach 8 cm cervix dilation or when the fourth technical applications were concluded.…”

“…These data show the importance of TENS for the early return to functionality of these women 1,13,14 . A randomized study by Melo de Paula et al 15 has evaluated 30 women with abdominal and lower abdomen pain in the immediate postoperative period of C-sections, who were divided in groups A and B, each one with 15 women submitted, respectively, to electric stimulation and placebo (TENS turned-off ). Researchers have used conventional current TENS (F=100Hz and T=50µs) during 50 minutes after the end of the anesthetic effect.…”

“…Authors (17) reported that primipara women have a considerably different post-cesarean section pain experience than multipara women. In a study developed with post-cesarean section women (18) , primipara women and women who had second deliveries were assessed, aiming to avoid sample biases regarding pain. Regarding the pain during the labor, it tends to be minimized and better taken by women who had more than two deliveries (19)(20) .…”

“…The pain average was 4.3 at rest, 6.2 walking and 6.9 when sitting down and standing up, which, according to authors (12) , represents the moderate pain level. Others (18) found an average of 6.9 through the Numeric Scale for parous women who had gone through a cesarean section. In a study with post-abdominal surgery patients (15) , high scores were observed through the Numeric Scale, however, the Scale used was 21 points, different from the scale used in this study, with 11 points, which makes comparisons impossible (15) .…”
