Individualized teaching programming for a virtual learning environment: development of content concerning nursing records

Abstract: Objective: Describe the planning of contents on nursing records for use in a virtual learning environment, based on Individualized Teaching Programming, a didactic resource that uses basic principles of behavioral analysis. Method: Final objectives were specified, after defining the intermediary components to achieve each final objective, as well as the preliminary requirements for each intermediary component. At the end of this process, teaching activities were planned and organized in steps the students need… Show more

“…Simulations have long been used in nursing education and allow anticipation of procedures and situations of hospital practice in a very interesting and challenging way, respecting the pace of learning of each student and providing the development of an ethical stance given nursing care (11) . The advantages of using technologies that justify its use in teaching are to provide the user an easier understanding of the subject discussed (18) , respecting the pace of learning of each student, enabling them to repeat the use of technology as often as needed for better learning (19)(20)(21) , creating a safe and effective environment to simulate clinical practice in virtual environments closer to reality (22) , motivating the use due to its graphics characteristics (21) , having an immediate time response to the actions and demonstrating students performance on tasks as part of the evaluation process (23) . Other scholars point out that technology has evolved significantly and currently students are more computerized than previous generations, so the focus should be on effective ways to incorporate new methodologies in education.…”

“…The use of available Information and Communication Technologies can favor the exchange of practical with updated theoretical-scientific knowledge, besides encouraging the professional to adopt new practices ( 1 ) . The use of simulation as a pedagogical strategy is an attempt to reproduce the particularities of a certain clinical situation, aiming for a better understanding and management of this condition when it happens in a real-life context.…”

“…4 In the pediatric hospital practice, nursing notes are still undervalued, being performed more frequently by nursing professionals of medium or fundamental level, 5 and subjective information such as the presence and participation of the accompanying family member during the hospitalization of the children are restricted. 5,6 This corroborates poor written communication, which is a frequent cause of adverse events in health care settings and results in problems ranging from delayed treatment to errors in surgeries and medication. 6 A systematic review study with the objective of exploring the quality of nursing documentation, which was carried out in Australia with quantitative and qualitative articles, published in the English language during the years 2000 to 2010, points out that nursing professionals should pay more attention to the accuracy of records were identified.…”

The scenarios investigated were hospitals that provide assistance to the adult population, primary care, school health center, mixed institutions between hospital and nursing home.…”
