RESUMO.-Descreve-se um surto de intoxicação espontânea por Perreyia flavipes em suínos. O surto ocorreu no final de maio de 2009, na cidade de Urubici, planalto serrano do Estado de Santa Catarina, Brasil. A propriedade tinha aproximadamente 50 animais criados extensivamente e desses 10 animais adoeceram. Esses suínos apresentavam anorexia, apatia, movimento constante de cabeça e bater de orelhas, dificuldade de caminhar, cambaleio, ranger de dentes e a agitação aumentava mediante ruídos e movimentos próximos. Na necropsia as alterações observadas foram a marcada evidenciação do padrão lobular hepático e a presença de larvas de P. flavipes misturadas ao conteúdo estomacal. Microscopicamente observou-se necrose de coagulação dos hepatócitos, com distribuição centrolobular a massiva que era acompanhada de congestão e hemorragia acentuada, restando uma ou duas camadas de hepatócitos com degeneração vacuolar na região portal. Os aspectos clínicos, epidemiológicos e as lesões caracterizaram hepatite tóxica por larvas de P. flavipes em suínos. TERMOS DE INDEXAÇÃO:Perreyia flavipes, Pergidae, bicho mata-porco, necrose hepática, suínos. INTRODUÇÃOPerreyia flavipes (bicho mata-porco, bicho-da-chuva, "sawfly", lagarta preta, ruga) são insetos semelhantes às vespas, pertencentes à ordem Hymenoptera e subordem Symphuta. A ingestão da fase larval desses insetos tem sido reportada como causa de necrose hepática aguda em bovinos (Dadswell et al. 1984) The study reports an outbreak of spontaneous poisoning by Perreyia flavipes in pigs. The outbreak occurred at the end of May 2009, in the municipality of Urubici, plateau of Santa Catarina, Brazil. The farm had about 50 pigs reared extensively and 10 animals got sick. The clinical signs were anorexia, apathy, constant movement of the head and hitting the ears, difficulty to walk and stagger, gnashing of teeth and agitation that increased with noise and movement nearby. At necropsy, pronounced hepatic lobular pattern and P. flavipes larvae mixed with the stomach content were observed. Microscopically, hepatocellular centrilobular to diffuse coagulation necrosis with severe congestion and hemorrhage was observed, with vacuolar degeneration in one or two layers of hepatocytes in the portal zones. Clinical signs, epidemiology and lesions in the pigs were characteristic of toxic hepatitis by larvae of P. flavipes.

An outbreak of natural poisoning by Cestrum laevigatum was reported among cattle in the Agreste region of Paraíba, which affected six out of 20 animals. Four animals were found dead and two presented clinical signs, including, dyspnea, drooling, jugular vein engorgement, muscle tremors and ataxia, which subsequently progressed to recumbence and death. An experimental poisoning was performed in two bovines who were administered single doses of 35 g kg -1 and 50 g kg -1 body weight (BW), respectively, of fresh leaves and fruits. The animal that received 35 g kg -1 BW had mild clinical signs, consisting of apathy, salivation and reduced ruminal movements with recovery 30 hours after the onset of initial signs. The animal that received 50 g kg -1 BW showed apathy, dry stool, drooling, hyperexcitability, head pressing, opisthotonos, nystagmus, miosis, jugular and episcleral vessel engorgement, ruminal atony, muscle tremors, ataxia, falling, seizures, and sternal recumbence, followed by lateral recumbence, with death occurring 21 hours and 37 minutes after ingestion. The enzyme activities of aspartate aminotransferase and gamma-glutamyltransferase in the serum increased significantly 18 hours after the administration of the plant. The primary gross lesions in the natural and experimental cases were enlarged livers, with rounded edges and accentuation of the lobular pattern on the capsular and cut surfaces. Histopathology revealed diffuse centrilobular coagulative necrosis with hemorrhages and congestion, and the presence of degenerated hepatocytes in the midzonal regions. Based on the epidemiological and clinicopathological data, we concluded that C. laevigatum was responsible for an acute hepatotoxic disease among cattle in the Agreste region of Paraíba. dois apresentando sinais clínicos, com dispneia, hipersalivação, ingurgitamento das jugulares, tremores musculares e incoordenação, evoluindo para decúbito e morte, sendo posteriormente submetidos à necropsia. Foi realizada a intoxicação experimental em dois bovinos que receberam doses únicas, correspondente a 35g kg -1 e 50g kg -1 de peso corporal (PC) de folhas e frutos frescos. O bovino que recebeu 35g kg -1 PC apresentou alterações clínicas leves, que consistiam em apatia, salivação e redução dos movimentos ruminais com recuperação 30 horas após o início dos sinais. Já no bovino que recebeu 50g kg -1 PC observou-se apatia, ressecamento das fezes, hipersalivação, hiperexcitabilidade, pressão da cabeça contra objetos, opistótono, nistagmo, miose, ingurgitamento das jugulares e dos vasos episclerais, atonia ruminal, tremores musculares, quedas, incoordenação, convulsões e decúbito esternal, seguido de decúbito lateral com morte 21h e 37min após a administração da planta. However, doses of 5, 10, and 15mg/kg repeated at 30 or 15 days intervals caused no disease and mild disease followed by death, respectively. These ϐin dings indicate that these animals probably developed some degree of tolerance to the toxins in P. ϔlavipes larvae. Ultrastru ctural examination of liver revealed proliferation of the smooth endoplasmic reticulum in the hepatocytes, which may be associated with an increased ability to metabolize toxins and could consequently lead to the tolerance observed in the present study. Further investigations may elucidate whether such tolerance effects could be applied as a control measure for P. ϔlavipes poioning or other hepatotoxic diseases. In addition, clinicopathological ϐindings were discussed. algum grau de tolerância para as toxinas presentes nas larvas de P. ϔlavipes. O exame ultraestrutural do ϐígado revelou proliferação do retículo endoplasmático liso de hepatóci-tos, o que pode ser associado a um aumento na capacidade de metabolizar toxinas e conseqüentemente levar à tolerância observada no presente estudo. Outras investigações poderão esclarecer se os efeitos de tal tolerância poderiam ser aplicados como medida de controle da intoxicação por P. ϔlavipes ou outras doenças hepatotóxicas. Além disso, os resultados clínico-patológicos foram discutidos.
