Development of a potentiometric flufenamate ISE and its application to pharmaceutical and clinical analyses

Show more

“…DP, similar to other carbapenems, was developed for the treatment of hospitalised patients with moderate or severe bacterial infections (Jones et al, 2004) Doripenem has been determined in its pharmaceutical formulation and in plasma using different techniques, including spectrophotometry (Piontek and Ska, 2010) chromatography High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) with various detection methods (Sutherland and Nicolau, 2007;Ikeda et al, 2008) and liquid chromatography (Dailly et al, 2011;Ohmori et al, 2011). The development and application of ion-selective electrodes for pharmaceutical analysis continue to be of interest because these sensors offer the advantage of simple design and operation, reasonable selectivity, fast response, applicability to coloured and turbid solutions and possible interface with automated and computerised systems (Santini et al, 2008). For these advantages, ISEs have found various applications: in clinical chemistry, environmental protection, water, soil and analytical chemistry in general (Kormosh et al, 2008).…”

“…In view of distinct advantage of ISEs huge amount of efforts have been devoted to make selective sensors for different ions [3]. The development and application of ion-selective electrodes for pharmaceutical analysis continue to be of interest because these sensors offer the advantage of simple design and operation, reasonable selectivity, wide dynamic range, low cost, fast response, applicability to colored and turbid solutions and possible interface with automated and computerized systems [4,5]. For these advantages, ISEs found various applications in clinical chemistry, in environmental protection, in agricultural, in foodstuff samples and in analytical chemistry [6].…”

“…Potentiometric methods with ion-selective electrodes (ISE's) have proved to be effective for the analysis of pharmaceutical formulations and biological samples, because these sensors offer the advantages of simple design, construction, and manipulation, reasonable selectivity, fast response time, applicability to colored and turbid solutions and possible interfacing with automated and computerized systems. [15][16][17]. A number of ISEs based on PVC membrane [10][11][12][13][14], for determination of pethidine have been reported.…”

“…The advantages of carbon paste electrodes, such as che- mical inertness, robustness, low cost, renewability, very low background current, stable response, low ohmic resistance and no need for internal solution over conventional polymeric membrane electrodes has attracted the attention of researchers in recent years [15][16][17][18]. After careful review of literature, there is no report on determination of pethidine hydrochloride using a carbon paste electrode.…”
