Substrate cultivation has been gaining interest from vegetable producers, however technical information for many crops is still recent, such as the gherkin, especially regarding the nutrient solution. This study was developed with the objective of evaluating the performance of three gherkin cultivars (Do Norte, Liso de Calcutá and Liso Gibão) grown in coconut fiber and fertigated with nutrient solutions of different concentrations (50, 75, 100 and 125% of the recommendation for melon), using a randomized block design, in a 3 x 4 factorial scheme, with four repetitions and plots composed of three plants. Growth and production variables were evaluated. In general, cv. Liso de Calcutá produced heavier fruits (35.69 g fruit-1), however cv. Liso Gibão produced an average of 21.6 fruits plant-1, being more productive (542.19 g planta-1). The cultivars Do Norte and Liso de Calcutá were less demanding on nutrients. In order to obtain the highest production of gherkin fruits cultivated in coconut fiber, fertigations must be carried out using nutrient solutions diluted in 50% for the cultivars Do Norte and Liso de Calcutá, while for cv. Liso Gibão it is recommended to use nutrient solution diluted in 75% of the concentration of nutrients recommended for the cultivation of melon.

ABSTRACT. The objective of this study was to evaluate the effects of a biostimulant on gherkin seeds, cultivar Liso de Calcutá, under conditions of salt stress. A split-plot experimental design with five replications was used; the main plot was represented by two levels of irrigation water salinity (0.5 and 3.5 dS m -1 ), and the subplot was composed of five biostimulant doses applied as a seed treatment (0, 5, 10, 15, and 20 mL kg -1). The following variables were evaluated: the number of leaves; number of branches; length of the largest branch; leaf, stem, fruit and total dry matter; number of fruits; average fruit weight; and fruit production. The values of all analyzed variables decreased with an increase in irrigation water salinity regardless of the biostimulant dose, but in the absence of salt stress, biostimulant use led to an increase in the number of leaves and branches, the length of the largest branch and biomass accumulation. Biostimulation was not effective in reducing the effects of salinity on gherkin production, but it increased fruit production regardless of the salinity level.

O maxixe é uma hortaliça a qual possui alto valor nutricional. Sua origem foi no continente africano e hoje é cultivada em vários lugares do mundo. No Brasil, ela é geralmente cultivada pela agricultura familiar, mas em grande parte surge de maneira espontânea e os frutos são colhidos e consumidos. O Nordeste é a região que mais produz e consome o fruto, tornou-se cultural nessa região as famosas “maxixadas”. Diante disso, objetivou- se com este trabalho avaliar o desempenho do maxixeiro submetido à inoculação de microrganismos promotores de crescimento. O experimento foi desenvolvido na Universidade Federal Rural da Amazônica campus Belém. Os tratamentos foram submetidos a duas bactérias (R96 e R46) e ao fungo Trichoderma. O delineamento experimental utilizado foi inteiramente casualizado (DIC), com oito tratamentos e quatro repetições. Foram realizadas análises biométricas (comprimento da haste, número de folhas, diâmetro do caule), de quantidade e peso dos frutos e fisiológicas (condutância estomática – COnd, taxa de assimilação de CO2 – PHOTO, transpiração – Trmol e temperatura da folha – TLEAF). Após 90 dias, o material foi pesado para obtenção de dados de massa úmida (MU). Após a secagem em estufa por 72h, foi feito uma segunda pesagem para obter os dados de massa seca (MS). Os dados obtidos foram submetidos à análise de variância e teste de Tukey a 5% de probabilidade e análise multivariada. Verificou-se que os microrganismos promotores de crescimento em plantas (MPCP) não influenciarem a produção de frutos, flores e folhas da cultura do maxixe.
