Thermal comfort temperature update for broiler chickens up to 21 days of age

Abstract: Due to changes in genetics and nutrition, as well as in acclimatization of broiler chickens to the Brazilian climate, temperature values currently accepted as optimal may be outdated. The objective of this research was to update the environment temperatures that characterize the thermal comfort for broilers chickens from one to 21 days of age, under Brazilian production conditions. This research was conducted with 600 COBB birds, which were distributed in five growth chambers maintained at different temperatur… Show more

“…The maximum expression of genetic potential requires a thermoneutral zone for rearing broilers, in which the thermoregulatory system of the poultry is not triggered, whether to produce or dissipate heat (Cassuce et al, 2013). However, the effects of environmental seasonality and the inadequacy of facilities to ensure appropriate temperature ranges expose the broilers to heat, impairing productivity.…”

“…O estresse por frio dos pintos pode desencadear hipotermia e induzir a síndrome da hipertensão pulmonar em frangos de corte (Mickelberry et al, 1966;Cassuce et al, 2013). O resultado desse estresse por frio só irá ser percebido na granja de criação, quando os pintos não conseguirem atingir o seu ótimo desempenho zootécnico ao longo dos 42 dias em que partes desses pintos virarão descarte e outros morrerão nas primeiras semanas de vida (Tzschentke, 2007).…”

“…The recorded Tdb values indicate that pigs were under thermal stress in both phases, hindering a maximum performance and animal welfare since they went above the range of 18 to 23 ºC, as well as above the critical maximum of 27 ºC (SAMPAIO et al, 2004). It is because Tdb and RH are bioclimatic factors play a more important role in animal comfort (CASSUCE et al, 2013).…”
