The present article aims to propose a theoretical discussion regarding the role of lying based upon the Evolutionary Psychology perspective by shedding a new light on the main studies conducted in this area. In order to do so, this article addresses the phylogenies and ontogenies of the capability to lie, both suggesting that the rise of lying as a pro-social deed is intimately related with Homo sapiens incredibly broad and complex communication skills. Like so, the paper continues on expatiating on the underlying cognitive and neuronal mechanisms of lying and lying recognition, as well as the diff erences amongst genders concerning the ability to recognize deceit. Broadly, the present theoretic study may elucidate the current state of knowledge regarding the topic, thus signaling necessary and more promising paths for future studies to follow with the purpose of contributing to fi elds where the act of uttering lies is highly present, such as the judicial context.

Resumo O artigo objetiva explicitar o sentido e a presença da falácia dilemática na discussão bioética, quando a argumentação se reduz a duas posições antagônicas, não permitindo o debate ao eliminar soluções intermediárias. A falácia acontece na deliberação dos comitês de ética clínica ou investigativa quando os membros confundem a argumentação retórica com a demonstração lógica, desconsiderando que a solução é sempre contingente. Ela também está presente nos debates públicos da sociedade sobre desafios éticos quando os participantes não assumem perspectiva pragmática, mas defendem posição ideológica que dificulta o diálogo e a discussão de soluções consensuais, sempre passíveis de revisão. A falta de certeza e a possibilidade de rever as propostas, que dependem da referência ética necessária aos contextos, são condições hermenêuticas da racionalidade prática, retórica e pragmática, bases para uma bioética crítica.

RESUMO Este ensaio divide-se em três partes. Primeiro, apresenta as críticas de Gadamer contra a ideia de autoridade do Iluminismo. Depois, expõe as críticas de Habermas contra Gadamer. Por fim, contrapõe as respostas de Gadamer às críticas de Habermas. Aqui, interessa apenas as implicações do conceito de autoridade para a educação. Este ensaio não trata do debate geral entre Habermas e Gadamer. A finalidade é pensar sobre como, na educação, a autoridade influi sobre a razão. Para tanto, parte de uma pressuposição: uma boa educação visa estimular a liberdade da razão. Eis o problema: a autoridade não coíbe a liberdade da razão, fim de uma boa educação?
