The lack of an efficient method of propagation in some cultivars makes it difficult to expand the blueberry culture. In Brazil, we still do not produce seedlings with needed quality and quantity to improve the sector. The cloning of the selected material through mini propagation and micro propagation is an alternative to increase the multiplication and rooting capacity of the blueberries. Allied to this, the use of cultivation system without soil for the development of cloned material facilitates the seedlings production. In addition, we can keep matrices in small spaces with the use of mini-gardens and clonal micro-gardens controlling climatic and nutritional factors. In the Laboratory of Fruit Plants Propagation, of the Phytotechnology Department of the School of Agronomy Eliseu Maciel of the Federal University of Pelotas we have searching for more than ten years the micro propagation and the mini propagation allied to the clonal gardens kept in a protected place, reducing the physical space and improving phytosanitary control. The experiments carried out brought important information regarding to the vegetative propagation of the blueberry to improve the seedling production process for this species. In this way, researches that have been realized seek to generate knowledge about the best way of propagating and conducting this fruit.

O mirtileiro é uma planta pertencente à família Ericaceae, subfamília Vaccinoideae e ao gênero Vaccinium O objetivo do trabalho foi avaliar o crescimento e desenvolvimento inicial de seis cultivares de mirtilo na região de Ponta Grossa-Paraná. As avaliações foram realizadas com as cultivares Bluegem, Climax, Briteblue, Woodard, Powderblue e Florida, todas pertencentes ao grupo Rabbiteye. Os parâmetros avaliados foram a porcentagem de sobrevivência, número de ramos principais, espessura dos ramos principais (cm), altura das plantas (cm) e diâmetro (cm), área (cm 2) e volume (cm 3) da copa. Não houve diferenças significativas para as variáveis avaliadas, com exceção do número de ramos e área da copa. Para estas variáveis, a cultivar Climax foi a que apresentou as maiores médias, enquanto que a cultivar Woodard apresentou o menor número de ramos e menor área da copa. Todas as cultivares avaliadas neste experimento apresentaram desenvolvimento satisfatório na região dos Campos Gerais, necessitando avaliações em longo prazo para verificar o potencial produtivo de cada cultivar.

Turmeric (Curcuma longa) is an Asian native species used for ornamental, medicinal and food purposes. However, its conventional propagation method is costly and inefficient. Therefore, this study aimed to verify appropriate asepsis methods for shoots from rhizomes, evaluate concentrations of activated charcoal and sucrose, and determine appropriate salt concentrations in Murashige and Skoog (MS) medium for turmeric growth. Three independent assays were performed. First, asepsis methods were verified for explants; second was for concentrations of sucrose and activated charcoal and in the final assay salt concentrations was evaluated. In all assays, MS medium supplemented with 30 g/L of sucrose, 6.5 g/L of agar and pH adjusted to 5.8 was used. Two growth regulators were added to the culture medium: 4.44 µM of 6-benzyl-amino-purine (BAP) and 1.08 µM of α-naphthalene acetic acid (NAA). Data obtained were subjected to analysis of variance (ANOVA) at p ≤ 0.05 probability. The averages were compared by Tukey's test and polynomial regression at p ≤ 0.05. All the asepsis methods evaluated showed similar effects. The highest concentration was obtained by utilizing 60 mg/L sucrose for the most part of the evaluated characteristics; however, it is recommended that activated charcoal be used at a concentration of 4.5 g/L. For salt concentrations, averages were compared by polynomial regression at (p ≤ 0.05) probability in 50 to 60% MS medium, and resulted in longer root systems, greater numbers of shoots and more leaves. The usual dose of 3% sucrose resulted in lower development of in vitro seedlings. Salt concentrations higher than 60% were toxic to turmeric tissues and consequently compromised the root system and the aerial part of developing seedlings.
