Purpose - The purpose of this paper is to describe five business incubators in Brazil through the Triple Helix model, their realities and challenges. Theoretical framework – A discussion of Business incubators, Triple Helix and the use of Information and Communication Technologies in incubators are the main lenses used to support the research. Design/methodology/approach – For this purpose, five case studies of incubators in the Northern and Southern Regions of Brazil were used. The paper uses a qualitative approach and collects data through semi-structured interviews. To analyze the results, the theory was compared to the findings from the field research. Findings - The results showed that most incubators are in public universities, the majority focus on technology, and some are diverse (social and cultural). Some internal and external partners help them with financial support. One of the challenges (maybe the most important) is a set of constraints because some lecturers cannot understand how to use academic knowledge in consultancy. Research, Practical & Social implications – The differences found between incubator categories are in the results that lead to this business model being more complex than it is in reality. The presentation of different incubator realities and challenges focusing on the discussion of ‘selling’ knowledge, the use of public resources by private enterprises, are the practical and social implications. Originality/value - The main contribution is to show the reality of these incubators, the empirical results, adding a new perspective to the discussion. This article poses to analyse knowledge management at Brazilian incubators, members of the National Association of Entities Promoting Innovative Enterprises (ANPROTEC). A descriptive, survey like research with a quantitative approach was undertaken. The research population consists of 359 business incubators in Brazil which are part of ANPROTEC, according to a list provided by the mentioned association. A questionnaire of closed questions was sent by e-mail to the coordinators (managers) of these incubators. From the total amount queried, 163 coordinators returned the survey instrument with answers, thus representing 45.40% of the population, which actually constitutes the sample by accessibility. The results of the research indicate that there is a concern in generating, disseminating and, primarily, in sharing knowledge, at the studied incubators. Concepts of knowledge management and the ways these are shared -duly discussed in the theoretical portion of the study -were identified upon conduction of the survey, particularly in as much as the seven dimensions presented by Terra (2001) -which ought to be taken into consideration during the implementation of knowledge management at an organization -is concerned. GESTÃO DO CONHECIMENTO EM INCUBADORAS BRASILEIRAS RESUMONeste artigo objetiva-se analisar a gestão do conhecimento em incubadoras brasileiras associadas à Associação Nacional de Entidades Promotoras de Empreendimentos Inovadores (ANPROTEC). Realizou-se uma pesquisa descritiva, do tipo survey, com abordagem quantitativa. A população da pesquisa compõe-se de 359 incubadoras de empresas brasileiras associadas à ANPROTEC, conforme listagem disponibilizada pela referida associação. Um questionário, com perguntas fechadas, foi enviado por e-mail, aos coordenadores (gestores) dessas incubadoras. Desse montante, 163 coordenadores retornaram o instrumento de pesquisa respondido, representando 45,40% da população, o que constitui a amostra por acessibilidade. Os resultados da pesquisa indicaram que há uma preocupação em gerar, difundir e, sobretudo, compartilhar conhecimentos nas incubadoras estudadas. Os conceitos de gestão do conhecimento e as formas de seu compartilhamento, abordados na fundamentação teórica do trabalho, foram identificados na pesquisa realizada, sobretudo quando relacionados às sete dimensões, apontadas por Terra (2001), a serem consideradas na implementação da gestão do conhecimento em uma organização. A pesquisa analisa os artigos publicados em periódicos científicos nacionais da área da Ciência da Informação, classificados com Qualis A1, tendo como parâmetro o termo “informação científica e tecnológica”. Apresenta conceitos acerca da informação científica e tecnológica e dos processos que envolvem seus usos, bem como a comunicação científica, fluxos informacionais e fontes de informação. A metodologia empregada consiste em estudo descritivo com abordagem quanti-qualitativa, com utilização das técnicas da bibliometria para medição de índices e da análise de conteúdo de Bardin. Foram analisados trinta e seis artigos, enquanto do qualitativo foram vinte e um resumos. Os resultados mostram que o periódico que mais publicou sobre o termo pesquisado foi “Informação e Sociedade”, o ano com maior número de publicações foi 2016. A autoria múltipla foi uma tendência constatada nos artigos e as palavras-chave mais utilizadas foram: acesso livre, informação científica e tecnológica e preservação digital. Quanto ao conteúdo dos resumos foi possível identificá-los dentro de três categorias de análise, sendo elas: ciência da informação e processos que envolvem o uso da informação; produção, comunicação e avaliação da atividade científica e tecnológica; e desenvolvimento científico e tecnológico. Conclui-se que há uma tendência da literatura analisada em se voltar para o estudo da própria informação, de metodologias aplicadas em estudos e ainda de produtos e serviços da informação. Os resumos abordaram temas como repositório institucional, bibliometria, coautoria, gestão de revistas científicas e políticas de informação científica e tecnológica.
