This research aims to describe the geographic and demographic profile of formal companies registered in activities related to consulting in Brazil. This is a bibliographic, descriptive-deductive study, with a quantitative methodological approach. At first, the development of the consulting sector is approached from its beginnings in Brazilian colonization and during the empire, through the industrial revolution to consolidation in the face of the implementation of the internet and the use of new digital technologies by consultants. Next, the characterization of consulting companies is presented, analyzing the distribution in the Brazilian territory in the areas of activity and size. In this sense, the study, in addition to serving as a basis for business decision-making, encourages discussions and academic investigations on the subject.
