Marker-assisted selection strategies for developing resistant soybean plants to cyst nematode

Abstract: -Resistant lines can be identified by marker-assisted selection (MAS), based on alleles of genetic markers linked to the resistance trait. This reduces the number of phenotypically evaluated lines, one of the limitations in the development of cultivars with resistance to soybean cyst nematode (SCN). This study evaluated the efficiency of microsatellites near quantitative trait loci (QTL) for SCN resistance, in the linkage groups (LG) G and A2 of soybean, for the selection of resistant genotypes in populations … Show more

“…Although constraints have limited the use of MAS in plant breeding programs in Brazil (Sakiyama et al 2014), use of molecular markers is effective for some traits, mainly in transfer of major genes (Santana et al 2014, Yamanaka et al 2013, Dimitrijević et al 2017. The use of backcrossing may be the best approach to transfer low linolenic acid and high oleic acid contents to elite cultivars.…”

“…The selection efficiency of the microsatellites, Sat_168, Satt309 and Sat_141, to the soybean cyst nematode was greater than 93% in selecting F 6:7 families from the cross between Vmax and CD201 (Santana et al. ). Therefore, MAS could also be a feasible strategy to breed soybean cultivars with higher VE activity by increasing the total VE or α‐Toc contents.…”
