Utilizing duoethnography (NORRIS; SAWYER, 2012), the authors explore challenges and opportunities for critical language teaching in times of crisis. Following a brief introduction of research methodology, the authors’ trioethnography dialogically examines three topical areas of particular concern in Brazil and Canada: 1. The potency of affect and its relevance for applied linguistics and language teacher education; 2. The re-emergence of “literacy wars” in education, with attention to their ideological and epistemological interconnections to social power relations; 3. Emerging implications for language and literacy pedagogies in which the authors share classroom experiences and transgressive strategies informed by plurilingual and affective insights. The complexity and variety of settings discussed in this final section help promote the possibilities for critical research and teaching in these difficult and dangerous times.

RESUMO Este artigo tem como objetivo discutir a questão da materialidade significante do corpo no en(tre)lace discursivo do político imbricado nas fronteiras com o social, a partir das obras de Dan Halter. Para tanto, proponho um diálogo teórico-analítico entre a perspectiva dialógica desenvolvida pelo russo Mikhail Bakhtin e a perspectiva do materialismo-histórico, tendo como base o dispositivo teórico da Análise do Discurso francesa, a fim de analisar o objeto de estudo em questão na relação corpo, memória e discurso. Nesse sentido, ao trabalhar com a imbricação entre a materialidade verbal e não verbal, busco lançar olhar sobre duas obras do artista zimbabueano Dan Halter, considerando, desse modo, os efeitos de sentido que deslizam metafórica e metonimicamente para outros sentidos do corpo que se desdobram em diferentes imagens do sujeito, tendo em vista os processos de estruturação do conflito e da tensividade do/no social a partir dos espaços ocupados por estes corpos e atravessados que são pelo simbólico, pela ideologia e pela história.

“…Par conséquent, en analysant le corps en tant que matérialité signifiante dans différentes conditions de production discursive, il est possible de montrer, selon Azevedo (2014), que la corporalité elle-même est également un objet important d'étude, inscrit aux frontières de la signification. L'auteure souligne que, si, d'une part, l'incomplétude (et le mouvement qu'il établit) permet le sens, l'errance des sens et des sujets, d'autre part, la contradiction indique la division à laquelle les objets idéologiques sont sujets.…”

Résumé En pensant sur la relation corps-espace-discours, cet article vise à analyser la matérialité signifiante du corps à partir des scènes prototypiques de protestations féministes. Pour cela, le point de repère théorique et analytique se déroule dans la perspective du matérialisme historique de l’analyse du discours française, à partir de laquelle tient à faire observer les mouvements du discours et de sens autour du corps qui se posent à la frontière entre l’évidence et l’opacité. Le choix de ce matériau, a permis de faire un investissement analytique sur la relation de signification du corps en tant que support idéologique dans le processus de discursivisation des protestations féministes. En ce sens, il est possible d’observer comment les conditions de production des sens autor du corps s'inscrivent dans le jeu entre différents espaces, l’histoire, la mémoire, le social, le symbolique et le politique.
