The water management in irrigated agriculture begins determining the need of water for the culture. Therefore, it was intended to evaluate the performance of the models of estimation reference of evapotranspiration (ETo) with regard to the method Penman-Monteith (PM), standard method, for Brazilian Cerrado Region (tropical grassland/savannah). The climate elements were obtained from the conventional weather station of Rio Verde from January/1972 to December/2016. It was compared the performance of the daily average ETo, during the dry, rainy and annual periods, by the PM method with regard to another 26 methods. Through the coefficient of determination, it was verified the methods of Turc (T) and Radiation-Temperature (RT) approached more to the PM, at any time of the year, being able to replace the standard method. The ETo average in the annual period was 3.8 mm day-1, for the dry period due to the smallest amount of solar radiation, the period submitted lower levels of ETo. The other models in which were used fewer amounts of climate data, they overestimated or underestimated the PM model by up to 57.9% and 60.7% respectively. With the management of water in agriculture, water availability can be increased in the hydric bodies, characterizing it as a tool for water management with the rational use of water resources.

RESUMOQuantificar a evapotranspiração é de grande importância no gerenciamento dos recursos hídricos, modelagem hidrológica e meteorológica e também no manejo hídrico sustentável de culturas irrigadas. Por isso, este trabalho teve por objetivo estimar a evapotranspiração de referência (ET 0 ) diária, para o município de Formiga -MG, utilizando o método padrão de Penman-Monteith FAO e outros três métodos empíricos. A estimativa da evapotranspiração de referência (ET 0 ) diária foi realizada a partir de dados disponibilizados pelo INMET, coletados por estação meteorológica automática, entre os anos de 2007 e 2014. Além disso, foram ajustadas as constantes empíricas dos métodos de Hargreaves, Makkink e Camargo, de forma que estas se adequassem às condições locais. Para a análise do desempenho dos métodos, foram considerados os índices de confiança (c), de concordância (d), coeficientes de correlação (r) e determinação (R 2 ); erro absoluto médio (EAM) e raiz quadrada do erro quadrado médio (RQEM). ResumoEstimar o consumo hídrico de uma cultura agrícola possibilita o planejamentodo suprimento artificial de água de maneira mais precisa e racional. Objetivou-se com o estudo, avaliar o desempenho dos métodos de Camargo, Hargreaves-Samani, Jensen-Haise e Priestley-Taylor, na estimativa da evapotranspiração de referência (ETo) diária tendo como referência o método FAO Penman-Monteith, para o município de Chapadinha-MA. Os valores de ETo, foram comparados por meio da análise de correlação e regressão linear. Para a avaliação do desempenho estatístico dos modelos, foram empregados os indicadores de raiz quadrada do erro quadrático médio (REQM), coeficiente de correlação (r), coeficiente de determinação (R²), índice de concordância (d) e o índice de confiança ou desempenho (c). Os métodos de Jensen-Haise, Priestley-Taylor e Hargreaves-Samani, apresentaram tendência de superestimar os valores de ETo em relação aos obtidos pelo método padrão. Em contrapartida, observouse no método de Camargo tendência em fornecer estimativas de ETo inferiores àquelas obtidas pelo método padrão. Recomenda-se para o município de Chapadinha-MA, o uso do método de Priestley-Taylor, mesmo apresentando tendência em superestimar os valores de ETo, foi o que melhor se ajustou em relação aos demais, sendo uma alternativa ao método padrão FAO Penman-Monteith. Abstract Evapotranspiration of reference for different methods for the municipality of Chapadinha-MAEstimating water consumption of agricultural crop enables the artificial water supply planning in a more precise and rational. The objective of the study, evaluate the performance of the methods of Camargo, Hargreaves-Samani, Jensen-Haise and Priestley-Taylor, in the estimation of reference evapotranspiration (ETo) daily with reference to the FAO Penman-Monteith method, to the municipality of Chapadinha-MA. ETo values were compared by analysis of correlation and linear regression. For the performance evaluation of statistical models, were used the square root of the mean square error (REQM), correlation coefficient (r), coefficient of determination (R ²), agreement (d) index and the index of confidence or performance (c). The methods of Jensen-Haise, Priestley-Taylor and Hargreaves-Samani, showed tendency to overestimate the ETo values compared to those obtained by the standard method. On the other hand, it was observed in the Camargo trend in providing estimates of inferior to those obtained by the ETo standard method. It is recommended for the municipality of Chapadinha-MA, using the method of Priestley-Taylor, even showing a tendency to overestimate the ETo values, was the best set in relation to the other, being an alternative to the standard method FAO Penman-Monteith.
