ABSTRACT:This study aimed at testing the fit of continuous probability distributions to a daily reference evapotranspiration dataset (ET0) at a 75% probability level for designing of irrigation systems. Reference evapotranspiration was estimated by the Penman-Monteith method (FAO-56-PM) for eight locations, within the state of Espírito Santo (Brazil), where there are automatic gauge stations. The assessed probability distributions were beta, gamma, generalized extreme value (GEV), generalized logistic (GLO), generalized normal (GN), Gumbel (G), normal (N), Pearson type 3 (P3), Weibull (W), two-and three-parameter lognormal (LN2 and LN3). The fitting of the probability distributions to the ET0 daily dataset was checked by the Kolmogorov-Smirnov's test. Among the studied distributions, GN was the only one to fit the ET0 data for all studied months and locations. We should also infer that continuous probability models have a good fit to the studied ET0 dataset, enabling its estimation at 75% probability through a Generalized Normal distribution (GN). Therefore, it can be used for the sizing of irrigation systems according to a given degree of risk.

RESUMO: A evapotranspiração de referência (ET 0 ) é um fenômeno mundialmente estudado por ser um importante parâmetro utilizado em estudos meteorológicos, climatológicos e hidrológicos.O objetivo deste estudo foi determinar e estimar a evapotranspiração de referência decendial associada a diferentes níveis de probabilidade para Urussanga, SC. O trabalho foi desenvolvido a partir dos dados diários de temperatura máxima, temperatura mínima, insolação, umidade relativa e velocidade do vento do período de 01/10/1980 a 31/12/2013, registrados na Estação Meteorológica de Urussanga, SC. A evapotranspiração de referencia diária foi calculada pelo método de Penman-Monteith e posteriormente agrupada em intervalos decendiais. Com a aplicação do teste de Kolmogorov-Smirnov ao nível de significância de 5 % foi verificado que as séries de evapotranspiração decendiais se ajustam a distribuição Beta, e esta distribuição de probabilidade foi usada na estimativa da evapotranspiração com probabilidade de 10 a 95%. A ET 0 média diária agrupada por decêndio variou entre 4,05 mm. DECENDIAL REFERENCE OF EVAPOTRANSPIRATION IN URUSSANGA -SC ABSTRACT:The reference evapotranspiration (ET0) is a worldwide phenomenon studied to be an important parameter used in meteorological, climatological and hydrological studies. The aim of this study was to determine and estimate the reference evapotranspiration decendial intervals associated with different levels of probability for Urussanga, SC. The work was developed from data daily maximum temperature, minimum temperature, sunshine, relative humidity and wind speed for the period of 10/01/1980 to 12/31/2013, recorded at the Meteorological Station Urussanga, SC. The daily reference evapotranspiration was calculated using the Penman-Monteith method and subsequently grouped in decendial intervals. With the application of the Kolmogorov-Smirnov test at a significance level of 5% was found that the series of decendial evapotranspiration fit the Beta distribution, and this probability distribution was used to estimate evapotranspiration probable of 10 to 95%. The average daily ET0 grouped by ten days varied between 4.05 and 1.22 mm.d -1 during the study period. The probability of 75%, the daily ET0 values grouped by ten days can reach the minimum value of 1.35 mm.d -1 at 30 th decendial (October). It was observed that the values of ET0 grouped by ten days with daily probability of 50% are slightly lower or higher than the average values
