Nitrogen and Potassium Fertilization in a Guava Orchard Evaluated for Five Cycles: Soil Cationic Balance

Abstract: Soil fertility evaluation through soil analysis traditionally does not consider interaction among elements. To include the interaction effect in interpretation of soil analyses, an experiment was conducted to evaluate the effect of nitrogen fertilization (0, 0.5, 1.0, and 2.0 kg N per plant per cycle) with urea (45 % N) and potassium fertilization (0, 0.55, 1

“…Fertilization with K in the soil without Ca did not influence the pH ( Figure 1A). The behavior of the data is in agreement with Montes et al (2016b) when they concluded that soil cultivated with "Paluma" guava only fertilized with K did not change pH. On the other hand, the pH of the soil increased linearly with the K 2 O doses in the treatments with Ca, this increase according to Wang et al (2012) is a response of the action of Ca and K on pH rise because the respective nutrients act in the exchange complex raising the sum of exchangeable bases and, in effect, the pH reducing the acidity of the soil that was 5.53 before the treatments were applied to the soil.…”

“…In the literature, soil compaction studies are usually related to cereal, fiber and energy crops, especially sugarcane (ARZENO et al, 2014;FAGUNDES;SILVA;BONFIM-SILVA, 2014). Yet, for fruit trees and especially guava, considering the soil production factor, there has been more concern regarding the fertility levels and nutritional management (AMORIM et al, 2015;SOUZA et al, 2016;MONTES et al, 2016). There is little found in the literature on the effects of the intense machine traffic that occurs during cultivation on the physical characteristics of the soil.…”
