Título: Propiedades psicométricas de la versión española del Inventario de Estrategias de Afrontamiento en personas mayores. Resumen: El objetivo del estudio fue evaluar las propiedades psicométri-cas del Inventario de Estrategias de Afrontamiento (CSI) en personas mayores. Para ello, se administró el cuestionario a 243 personas con edades comprendidas entre los 55 y 99 años. Los resultados muestran una estructura factorial de primer orden similar a la de la versión original y la adaptación al castellano en población general. Además se observaron elevados niveles de consistencia interna y validez convergente en las diferentes estrategias primarias. Sin embargo, la escala Evitación de Problemas no superó el test de validez y fiabilidad por lo que se propone la eliminación de 2 de sus ítems. Por otro lado en este trabajo se confirma la estructura secundaria y terciaria del inventario obtenida en la versión original y que no se conseguía en los estudios de adaptación y replicación al castellano. Abstract:The aim of this study was to evaluate the psychometric properties of the Coping Strategies Inventory (CSI) in a sample of 243 people aged 55 to 99 years old. The first order factorial structure was similar to the structure of the original version of the CSI and to the Spanish adaptation with general population. Furthermore, high levels of internal consistency and of convergent validity were observed in the different primary scales. Nevertheless, the problem avoidance scale did not surpass the validity and reliability tests. Due to it we propose to delete two of the items of this scale. On the other hand, in this study we confirmed the secondary and tertiary structure obtained in the original version of the inventory that was neither confirmed in the Spanish adaptation study nor the other studies on the psychometric properties of the Spanish version of the CSI.

Development and Validation of a Coping Strategies Scale for Use in Chinese Contexts

Individuals’ coping strategies have a profound effect on how well they respond to negative life events. Despite this, most coping strategies instruments that are available currently have been developed exclusively in Western contexts. In the present study, a Coping Strategies Scale (CSS) for use with Chinese participants was developed and validated based on responses from 734 Chinese university students (334 male, 399 female, 1 other). Results supported a seven-factor structure for the CSS, which included the dimensions of Withdrawal, Positive Adaptation, Problem-solving, Disengagement, Prosocial Focus, Seeking Emotional Support, and Self-regulation. The results supported the validity of the seven-factor CSS in terms of its content, associated response processes, internal structure, and relationships with other variables. Based on these results, the CSS provides a psychometrically sound instrument for assessing the coping strategies used by Chinese adults in confronting potentially adverse psychological events.

El ambiente universitario es un contexto que ofrece retos a los estudiantes y probabiliza la presencia de problemas de salud mental si estos no cuentan con habilidades necesarias para hacerles frente, fenómeno que afecta diversas áreas. Partiendo de los objetivos, identificar la presencia de indicadores de problemas de salud mental y habilidades de afrontamiento en los estudiantes universitarios, y analizar las diferencias entre las variables relacionadas a problemas de salud mental y habilidades de afrontamiento entre grupos de rendimiento académico en estudiantes universitarios, se estructuró una investigación cuantitativa y transversal, con una muestra de 688 estudiantes, a los cuales se les aplicó dos instrumentos, uno de salud mental y otro de habilidades de afrontamiento; se analizaron los resultados a nivel global y por carrera, además de buscar si presentaban diferencias con el rendimiento académico. Los resultados demostraron que más de la mitad de los estudiantes presentó problemas de salud mental, así como problemas en la ejecución de habilidades de afrontamiento; no hubo diferencias significativas en el análisis comparativo, se discuten los resultados.
