Phosphorus is part of several organic compounds in plant metabolism such as nucleotides and phosphoproteins, in addition to participating in metabolism and energy storage. This study aimed to evaluate the response of peach trees cv. Sensação to phosphate fertilization and establish the critical level of this nutrient in soil and leaves. The experiment was conducted in the 2016 and 2017 cycles in a commercial orchard located in Morro Redondo, RS, Brazil. The experimental design was a randomized block design with four replications. Peach trees were fertilized with increasing doses of phosphorus (P) of 0, 20, 40, 60, and 80 kg ha −1 of P 2 O 5 as triple superphosphate. In the two evaluated cycles, samples of soil at a depth of 0-20 cm and leaves were collected to determine mineral contents. The data were submitted to analysis of variance by the F test (P<0.05), and when the effects were significant, regression equations were adjusted. P application increased the contents of this nutrient in the soil. Leaf P contents were not affected by fertilization, as well as productivity and yield components. Thus, the critical level of P in soil and peach leaves could not be established. In soils where P contents are classified as medium and high, there is no need to apply this nutrient.

Analysing growth and nutrient accumulation is generally employed for guiding the fertilisation practices in the seedling-production chain. In the production of peach rootstock, such evaluations can provide information to aid can to aid in discrimination available genotypes, especially regarding the efficient use and conversion of fertiliser into dry matter, which can reduce the time required to obtain plants suitable for grafting. The aim of this study, was to investigate the differences in growth and nutrient accumulation in three peach-rootstock cultivars. A completely randomised experimental design was used, in a 3 x 4 factorial scheme, including three peach rootstocks ('Flordaguard', 'Capdeboscq' and 'Okinawa Roxo') and four periods of growth evaluation (20, 40, 60 and 80 days after transplanting - DAT), giving a total of 12 treatments, with four replications, one for each plant. The Flordaguard and Capdeboscq cultivars showed greater height and stem diameter as well as a greater accumulation of total dry matter at 80 DAT, and both followed the distribution: leaves (67%) > roots (33%), while total dry-matter production in 'Okinawa Roxo' was less, following the order: leaves (71%) > roots (29%). The rootstock under evaluation showed variations in growth, confirmed by the physiological indices, except for the leaf area and specific leaf area. In general, macronutrient accumulation in the shoots and roots of the cultivars during each growth period was different, suggesting intrinsic differences in each of the genetic materials regarding nutrient demand for maintaining the metabolic processes which are vital to plant growth.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the efficiency of nutrient uptake, accumulation, distribution and use, and its relationship with growth variables, chlorophyll content, and root and shoot dry-weight partitioning in the ‘Okinawa Roxo’ peach rootstock, submitted to different nutrient solutions and substrates. The experimental design was completely randomised, with four treatments and five replications. The treatments were T1: Ns1 = Souza et al. nutrient solution (2011), applied to a sand substrate; T2: Ns2 = Hoagland and Arnon (1950), applied to a sand substrate; T3: Commercial Substrate + H2O; and T4: Control, Sand + H2O. Ninety days after transplanting (DAT), morphological, physiological and nutritional parameters were determined in the ‘Okinawa Roxo’ rootstock, together with the correlation between nitrogen concentration and nitrogen balance index, and the chlorophyll content and index. The greatest zinc content was detected in the shoots of the ‘Okinawa Roxo’ plants, at more than 80% of the accumulated total. Treatments T1 and T2 (nutrient solutions Ns1 and Ns2 respectively) made it possible to obtain ‘Okinawa Roxo’ plants with the best morphophysiological characteristics, being ready for grafting three months after transplanting in a greenhouse. The use of the Ns1 nutrient solution resulted in greater efficiency in the uptake and use of the nutrients nitrogen (N), potassium (K) and iron (Fe). The N and Total Chlorophyll concentrations in the leaves of the red-leaved peach tree can be estimated indirectly with a chlorophyll meter, and are an accurate indication of the nutritional status of the plant in relation to nitrogen content.
