Objective: to characterize adolescents’ sexual practices and their association with sociodemographic variables, sources of information and behavioral habits. Method: a descriptive, observational, cross-sectional study conducted with 85 adolescents from public elementary and high schools in a city in the state of São Paulo. Data were collected through a structured, self-administered and anonymous questionnaire. Statistical analysis was performed using the χ2 test and Fisher’s test. Results: 21.2% had started their sexual life through oral sex, with a predominance of females (94.4%), self-reported brown color (55.0%). The practice of vaginal sex was reported in 31.8%, with a mean age of initiation at 14.5 years. The female sex was predominant (77.0%), with a self-reported brown color (40.0%). The practice of anal sex was detected in 7.1%, with a mean age of 14.4 years, prevalent in females (83.3%), with a self-reported black color (50.0%). There was an association of alcohol, drugs and tobacco use with sexual practices (p<0.05). Conclusion: a diversity of sexual practices associated with substance use was detected, emphasizing the importance of the nurse’s role in planning and carrying out health education interventions with adolescents and families.

Scientific interest in lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer and any other sexual orientation, gender identity and/or expression (LGBTQ+) bullying in educational settings has grown exponentially in recent years. However, the varied ways of measuring its occurrence and associated factors have made it difficult to achieve a holistic understanding of this problem. Therefore, this systematic review aimed to provide an updated overview of individual and contextual factors related to LGBTQ+ bullying over the past two decades, based on the measurement approach to this phenomenon. Studies published from 2000 to 2020 were analyzed following the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic reviews and Meta-Analyses strategy. Inclusion and exclusion criteria were applied in a staggered process, and 111 articles met all the criteria. Studies focusing on LGBTQ+ bullying victimization or aggression were eligible for inclusion. Our analysis revealed LGBTQ+ bullying is usually examined by measures of general aggressions (47.8%) from the victims’ perspective (87.3%). The best-represented factors across studies were individual characteristics (63.1%; n = 70), especially participants’ sexual orientation and gender identity and expression (68.5%). Boys/males, from a binary gender perspective, and sexual and gender minority youth in general, were more at risk of being targeted for LGBTQ+ bullying. Although contextual factors were far less well-represented, the results revealed that gay-straight alliances, anti-homophobia policies, and social support act as protective factors. This review highlights the need to analyze LGBTQ+ bullying considering the full spectrum of sexual and gender diversity, to examine in more detail its contextual risk/protective factors, and to design public policies and psychoeducational programs in order to address the low effectiveness of generic interventions. Implications for future research and practice are discussed.

Considerando a frequente ocorrência da homofobia no contexto escolar, os objetivos do estudo foram investigar retrospectivamente as experiências de homofobia na escola em jovens universitários, bem como analisar a percepção dos jovens sobre a ação da equipe escolar diante da homofobia. Para tanto, 104 estudantes universitários responderam a uma versão traduzida e adaptada do questionário National School Climate Survey - Gay, Lesbian, Straight, Education Network. Os participantes relataram ter vivenciado ou presenciado experiências de violência homofóbica, como comentários homofóbicos (93,1%); propagação de rumores e mentiras (61,5%); exclusão (85,7%); agressão física (48,1%); assédio sexual (61,5%); e cyberbullying (50%). Entre os 25 participantes que se identificaram como gay, lésbica, bissexual, transgênero ou em dúvida, 80% apontaram incômodo quando sua orientação sexual ou identidade de gênero foi revelada para pessoas da sua escola. Foram também relatadas situações que indicam homofobia por parte da equipe escolar: 58,6% afirmaram que ouviam comentários homofóbicos feitos por professores ou funcionários da escola e 30,8% relataram que a equipe escolar nunca tomava alguma atitude quando estava presente durante os comentários homofóbicos. Conclui-se que há necessidade de ações de prevenção e intervenção em situações de homofobia na escola, bem como preparo da equipe escolar para lidar com o tema.
