В работе рассматривается состояние и эволюция школ и состояние образованности, роль книжной культуры в Восточном Средиземноморье ранневизантийского времени (IV–VII вв.) в контексте культурного континуитета между античностью и Средневековьем на примере городов Сиро-Палестинского региона Антиохии, Берита, Кесарии и Газы. Помимо внутренней истории школ, делаются общие наблюдения над спецификой ситуации в каждом из указанных центров. Весь позднеантичный мир с середины VI в. стал проявлять признаки медиевализации знания, эволюции картины мира, что находилось в связи с другими процессами завершения развития античной цивилизации (прекращение реального муниципального самоуправления, рост этатизма, углубление христианизации, влияние оживившихся местных этно-конфессиональных традиций в регионах). Тем не менее сохранение высоких стандартов грамотности, книг и школ продолжалось до вступления Византии в «Темные века».
Аннотация. В статье предпринята попытка дать общий очерк места и роли Гипатии Александрийской в истории позднеантичной школы и учености. Она, став преемником своего отца Теона, была руководителем (схолархом) школы, в которой преподавались философия, математика и астрономия. Эту школу следует отличать от Александрийской философской школы неоплатонизма, которую создали Гиерокл и Гермий, а реформирова-ла Эдесия. Гипатия отличается от прочих ученых и преподавателей Александрии тем, что работала сразу в нескольких отраслях знания. Главное призвание Гипатии было, видимо, в преподавании. Известен целый ряд ее учеников, например, Синезий, епископ Птолемаиды в Кирене. Гипатия играла важную роль в муниципальном самоуправлении Александрии, была близка к первым лицам города. Она также имела активные контакты с представите-лями провинциальной администрации. Будучи язычницей, Гипатия не акцентировала вни-мания на религиозных вопросах, исповедуя «плотиновский» неоплатонизм, а не «ямвли-ховский», сопровождавшийся активными религиозными практиками, поэтому в ее школе обучались и язычники, и христиане. Обострение социальных и религиозных конфликтов в связи с приходом к власти патриарха Кирилла в 415 г. привело к уличным беспорядкам, при которых Гипатия погибла. Компромисс между высшей школой с классической моде-лью образования и христианской церковью был достигнут в Александрии только через 70 лет. Отечественная историческая наука очень мало интересовалась наследием Гипатии. Нет ни одной монографии или аналитической статьи, если не считать очерка М.М. Между тем в отечественной историографии совершенно отсутствуют научные работы историков, которые были бы посвящены этой личности и ее школе. Един-ственное исключение -популярный очерк М.М. Казакова 1 в сборнике, подготов-ленном историками Белорусского госуниверситета. Тема данной работы посвящена философам Александрийской неоплатонической школы середины – 2-й пол. VI в. – Олимпиодору, Элию и Давиду. Они принадлежали школе Аммония и продолжали традиции античного неоплатонизма и аристотелизма в ней. В статье доказывается, что Элий был схолархом школы (565–590 гг.) после смерти Олимпиодора, а Давида можно отождествить с легендарным армянским философом Давидом Анахтом. Давид, современник Элия, не став схолархом, вернулся из Александрии в Армению, где стал развивать неоплатонические идеи. Оба философа были христианами, хотя принимали некоторые идеи неоплатоников. Относительно Давида делается вывод о смещении его хронологии в армянской исторической традиции в сторону удревнения; более правильно отнести время его жизни к середине – 2-й половине VI в.
