An explanation of the origin of inelastic peaks in magnetic neutron-scattering spectra of the mixed-valence semiconductor SmBd is proposed. It is shown that the excitonic theory of the intermediate valence state not only gives the value of the peak frequency but also explains the unusual angular dependence of the intensity of inelastic m a p & scattering and describes the dispersion of magnetic excitations in good agreement with experiment.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
