Single-phase, insulating Bi1−xLaxFeO3 (BLFOx, x=0.05, 0.10, 0.15, 0.20, 0.30, and 0.40) ceramics were prepared. An obvious phase transition from rhombohedral to orthorhombic phase was observed near x=0.30. It is found that the phase transition destructs the spin cycloid of BiFeO3 (BFO), and therefore, releases the locked magnetization and enhances magnetoelectric interaction. As a result, improved multiferroic properties of the BLFO0.30 ceramics with remnant polarization and magnetization (2Pr and 2Mr) of 22.4μC∕cm2 and 0.041emu∕g, respectively, were established.
The jujube (Ziziphus jujuba Mill.), a member of family Rhamnaceae, is a major
dry fruit and a traditional herbal medicine for more than one billion people. Here
we present a high-quality sequence for the complex jujube genome, the first genome
sequence of Rhamnaceae, using an integrated strategy. The final assembly spans
437.65 Mb (98.6% of the estimated) with 321.45 Mb anchored to
the 12 pseudo-chromosomes and contains 32,808 genes. The jujube genome has undergone
frequent inter-chromosome fusions and segmental duplications, but no recent
whole-genome duplication. Further analyses of the jujube-specific genes and
transcriptome data from 15 tissues reveal the molecular mechanisms underlying some
specific properties of the jujube. Its high vitamin C content can be attributed to a
unique high level expression of genes involved in both biosynthesis and
regeneration. Our study provides insights into jujube-specific biology and valuable
genomic resources for the improvement of Rhamnaceae plants and other fruit
trees.
Instruction via a mobile social media app, in conjunction with regular instruction, increases subjective measures of adequacy of bowel preparation. Use of the app significantly increased the proportion of patients with successful cecal intubation and in whom adenomas were detected, indicating increased quality of colonoscopy. Cellular prion protein (PrPc) is a glycosylphosphatidylinositol (GPI) -anchored membrane protein that is highly conserved in mammalian species. PrPc has the characteristics of adhesive molecules and is thought to play a role in cell adhesion and membrane signaling. Here we investigated the possible role of PrPc in the process of invasiveness and metastasis in gastric cancers. PrPc was found to be highly expressed in metastatic gastric cancers compared to nonmetastatic ones by immunohistochemical staining. PrPc significantly promoted the adhesive, invasive, and in vivo metastatic abilities of gastric cancer cell lines SGC7901 and MKN45. PrPc also increased promoter activity and the expression of MMP11 by activating phosphorylated ErK1/2 in gastric cancer cells. MEK inhibitor PD98059 and MMP11 antibody (Ab) significantly inhibited in vitro invasive and in vivo metastatic abilities induced by PrPc. N-terminal fragment (amino acid 24-90) was suggested to be an indispensable region for signal transduction and invasion-promoting function of PrPc. Taken together, the present work revealed a novel function of PrPc that the existence of N-terminal region of PrPc could promote the invasive and metastatic abilities of gastric cancer cells at least partially through activation of MEK/ERK pathway and consequent transactivation of MMP11.
This prospective study confirms Western retrospective data that WE significantly improves ADR among Chinese colonoscopists. WE may be superior to AI for screening colonoscopy in China. Colonoscopists elsewhere with low ADR might consider evaluating WE for performance improvement.
Polycrystalline (Ba,Sr)(Zr,Ti)O3 thin films sandwiched between two Pt electrodes have been revealed to exhibit hysteretic current-voltage (I-V) characteristics and resistive switching at room temperature. High- and low-resistance states, as well as a less abrupt state transition, occur during the voltage cycle. The maximum ratio between these two resistance states is about 230. Analyses of I-V behaviors have been executed, and it is proposed that space-charge-limited-current conduction in higher voltage region caused by asymmetric electron trapping centers is responsible for such transition of resistance states.
