Purpose: The aim of the article is to examine the relationship between the use of learning and development tools in building the innovation potential of enterprises in the artificial intelligence sector. Design/Methodology/Approach: The study is based on a survey on companies from the artificial intelligence sector (n=127) located in Poland. The regression model defines the relationship between learning and development tools and innovations measured by the number of obtained patents. In addition, the analysis was expanded to include the results of a survey conducted among employees of the surveyed enterprises. As a result, an assessment of the usefulness of knowledge management tools was obtained. Findings: The findings indicate that modern tools of knowledge management in the form of knowledge bases and knowledge pills, or gamifications and business simulations affects the level of innovativeness. These tools are positive assessed by employees (i.e. programmers) that are directly involved in creating solutions in the field of artificial intelligence. Practical implications: The results of the analysis may indicate the directions of development of HR departments in companies of the artificial intelligence sector. It turns out that modern forms of learning stimulate the level of company innovation. Originality/Value: The artificial intelligence sector is perceived as the one that will have the greatest impact on technological progress in the coming years. Solutions in the field of artificial intelligence will have their impact on other industries, such as medicine or the IT sector. The study drew attention to factors determining the level of innovativeness of companies related to learning and development tools.
Purpose: We assess the relationship between a potential change in the ownership structure and the change in the scope of control over managing a family business. Design/Methodology/Approach: Analyzing the data characterizing the 500 largest family businesses, correlations between variables were calculated to observe relationships that primarily affect the size of family shares in the company and family impact on management. Findings: The reduction of family shares is also associated with the loss of participation in the company's management board due to increased management board members. This may also result in the CEO changing to a non-family member, which further weakens company management control. Practical Implications: The analysis results show that as the family share in the family business decreases, it loses control over management. Thoughtfully planning and carrying out the succession process to maintain the family's ownership seems to be crucial. Originality/Value: The political transformation in the 1990s in CEE countries resulted in the creation of many private companies, most of which can be considered family businesses. After about 30 years of operation, many of them face transferring ownership and management to the next generation, which may determine their further development. In the case of family businesses, succession is often referred to as the main goal of this enterprise type.
Nowadays, customers expect manufacturers to supply high quality products, on-time deliveries and competitive prices. The consequence of the increased market requirements is the need to maintain high reliability and efficiency of machines and the production process. The existing methods of production management have proved to be inefficient enough to maintain the company’s competitive position on the market. The Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) concept is one of the tools to maximize equipment efficiency by establishing an optimal relationship between people and machines. The aim of the article is to present the issues related to TPM and demonstrate in the process of empirical research that it serves the purpose of improving efficiency and supports quality in the enterprise. The considerations are based on the thesis that TPM is an economical variant of maintenance and guarantees stability, quality and maximization of production efficiency. The article presents the results of empirical research in an enterprise extracting and processing pre-crudes and gas from Caspian Sea. The data from the SAP management system of the investigated enterprise were used. Based on 146 maintenance orders for 40 devices, a correlation between preventive and corrective maintenance was determined using statistical tools. The main goal of the study was to show whether preventive maintenance reduces the occurrence of failures contributing to the elimination of disturbances in the production process. In addition, we analyzed real cases of equipment failures to answer the question whether the procedure of preventive maintenance of equipment in the studied population would prevent the occurrence of these defects. The empirical study demonstrated a clear impact of Preventive Maintenance on limiting the occurrence of equipment failures, and thus production disturbances.
