Smart packaging is a packaging system with embedded sensor or indicator technology, which provides information on the quality of the product, especially perishable foods such as goat milk. One application of smart packaging is to use a time-temperature bioindicator. The purpose of this study was to determine the quality of fresh goat milk during storage at freezing temperatures (−20 ± 2°C) for 31 days and room temperature (25 ± 3°C) for 24 hours using a time-temperature indicator by utilizing a natural dye betacyanin. The method used was descriptive analysis, and the data obtained were processed using the correlation regression test. The samples were observed at freezing temperature every 24 hours and room temperature at 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, 10, and 24 hours. The observation criteria consisted of changes in bioindicator color, milk pH, and total microbes. The results showed that color changes of the bioindicator film at room temperature were more noticeable than at freezing temperature. Based on changes in color of the bioindicator at room temperature, the sample was safe for consumption until the 5th hour with pH 6.51, and the biofilm color characteristics were L∗ = 82.49, a∗ = 21.46, and b∗ = −7.33, but the total number of microbes did not fulfil Indonesian National Standard at the 24th hour, i.e., 1.36 × 106 CFU/ml. At freezing temperatures, fresh goat milk was still safe for consumption until the 31st day with pH 6.51 and total microbe of 1.89 × 105 CFU/ml, and the biofilm color characteristics were L∗ = 80.52, a∗ = 24.15, and b∗ = −7.91. The results of this study concluded that the milk expiration limit based on the betacyanin indicator was 5 hours at room temperature and 31 days at freezing temperature.

Propolis has known as an aromatic resin which possesses several health beneficial properties such as antimicrobial and antioxidant due to bioactive and its complex composition. Propolis has been utilized in the form of extract however the application in food is limited due to its insolubility in water and undesirable sensory characteristics. Propolis encapsulation by spray drying with maltodextrin with or without gum Arabic could reduce the undesirable sensory characteristic, protect bioactive compounds, and increase its availability in water soluble matrices. Evaluation of the total bioactive compounds evaluated before and after the drying process to know the effects of matrices agent formulations. Physical properties such as surface structure and particle size homogeneity and hygroscopicity will be evaluated. Maltodextrin and Arabic gum ratio affect phenolic content which is 0.0425–0.0445%, and also flavonoid content 0.00273–0.00415%. The coating agent ratio also affects the higroscopicity which are 12.01–14.06% and moisture content which are 4.65–7.71%. The scanning electron microscope (SEM) images show that the cracks and hollows are often on the microcapsule surface but the particle size is more homogeneous.

Amount of straw wastes in Ciparay, Bandung, West Java Indonesia reaches 10-12 tons.ha -1 but its has not been well managed, after harvested, the remaining unused straw is abandoned on the ground and is eventually burned. In the long run, this straw burning will be very disadvantageous to farmers, especially in terms of the environmental impacts on rice paddy including decreasing soil fertility, killing soil biota, damaging soil physical properties and wasting energy. One of alternatives to utilize rice straw able to provide added value is utilizing its waste as a material to make compost on the condition that the straw is already chopped into a size of 5-10 cm according to SNI standards. Therefore, a study on rice straw chopping technology based on the composting requirements is required. The aim of this study is to design a prototype of rice straw chopper with capacity 100 kg.hr -1 . The method used in this research is engineering design with observation of the reasearch, design criteria, functional and structural design, figure design, technical analysis, prototyping of rice straw chopper, machine functional and performance test. The measurement results of rice straw characteristics show that the average length, diameter, bulk density and moisture content of rice straw are 708 mm, 4 mm, 160.6 kg.m -3 and 34.6% wet basis. This straw chopper design were produces a prototype with a dimension of 1040 mm (length) x 1000 mm (height) x 465 mm (width) with a power source generator using 5.5 HP gasoline motor. The result of functional test of the straw chopper shows that the actual capacity of this straw chopper is 100.32 kg.hr -1 .
