Stringent COVID-19 control measures were imposed in Wuhan between January 23 and April 8, 2020. Estimates of the prevalence of infection following the release of restrictions could inform post-lockdown pandemic management. Here, we describe a city-wide SARS-CoV-2 nucleic acid screening programme between May 14 and June 1, 2020 in Wuhan. All city residents aged six years or older were eligible and 9,899,828 (92.9%) participated. No new symptomatic cases and 300 asymptomatic cases (detection rate 0.303/10,000, 95% CI 0.270–0.339/10,000) were identified. There were no positive tests amongst 1,174 close contacts of asymptomatic cases. 107 of 34,424 previously recovered COVID-19 patients tested positive again (re-positive rate 0.31%, 95% CI 0.423–0.574%). The prevalence of SARS-CoV-2 infection in Wuhan was therefore very low five to eight weeks after the end of lockdown.

Epidemiological evidence on the association between sedentary behaviors and the risk of depression is inconsistent. We conducted a meta-analysis of prospective studies to identify the impact of sedentary behaviors on the risk of depression. We systematically searched in the PubMed and Embase databases to June 2019 for prospective cohort studies investigating sedentary behaviors in relation to the risk of depression. The pooled relative risks (RRs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were calculated with random-effect meta-analysis. In addition, meta-regression analyses, subgroup analyses, and sensitivity analyses were performed to explore the potential sources of heterogeneity. Twelve prospective studies involving 128,553 participants were identified. A significantly positive association between sedentary behavior and the risk of depression was observed (RR = 1.10, 95% CI 1.03-1.19, I 2 = 60.6%, P < 0.01). Subgroup analyses revealed that watching television was positively associated with the risk of depression (RR = 1.18, 95% CI 1.07-1.30), whereas using a computer was not (RR = 0.99, 95% CI 0.79-1.23). Mentally passive sedentary behaviors could increase the risk of depression (RR = 1.17, 95% CI 1.08-1.27), whereas the effect of mentally active sedentary behaviors were non-significant (RR = 0.98, 95% CI 0.83-1.15). Sedentary behaviors were positively related to depression defined by clinical diagnosis (RR = 1.08, 95% CI 1.03, 1.14), whereas the associations were statistically nonsignificant when depression was evaluated by the CES-D and the Prime-MD screening. The present study suggests that mentally passive sedentary behaviors, such as watching television, could increase the risk of depression. Interventions that reduce mentally passive sedentary behaviors may prevent depression.

Rationale: Acute ischemic stroke (AIS) is one of the most severe diseases that endanger human health. It is very common among middle-aged and elderly people, but it is rare in children. The treatment varies among children and adults, since the cause for AIS in children differs from that in adults. In adults with AIS, endovascular therapy has been recommended, but guidelines for endovascular therapy in children with AIS have not been established yet. In China, few relevant evidence is present so far in clinical research of mechanical thrombectomy in the treatment for children with AIS. Patient concerns: A 12-year-old boy without any special physical collision and trauma was admitted to emergency department of Changsha central hospital due to hemiplegia of left limbs for 3 hours. Diagnoses: He was diagnosed with AIS after magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) examination and magnetic resonance angiography (MRA) examination. Cerebral infarction in the right parietal, temporal, insular, and frontal lobes was revealed by the MRI test. The MRA test detected occlusions in right internal carotid artery, A1 segment of right anterior cerebral artery, right middle cerebral artery, and distal branch. Interventions: Mechanic thrombectomy and antiplatelet aggregation therapy with clopidogrel helped the patient to recover, along with active rehabilitation training. Outcomes: A significant improvement in muscle strength of his left limbs was proved. He walked by himself and had 2 of Modified Rankin Scale (MRS). At 1-year follow-up visit, he recovered well except feeling a bit pain of left lower limb when walking, with finally MRS of 1. Conclusions: Mechanical thrombectomy can be performed safely for children with AIS, but needs a further research with large samples.

Background: After the outbreak of Coronavirus disease in 2019 (COVID-19), stringent lockdown measures were imposed in Wuhan between January 23, 2020 and April 8, 2020. To provide evidence on the post-lockdown risk of COVID-19 epidemic in Wuhan, the city government conducted a citywide nucleic acid screening of SARS-CoV-2 infection between May 14 and June 1, 2020. Methods: All city residents aged ≥6 years were potentially eligible to participate the screening programme. The rate of detection of asymptomatic infected cases was calculated, and their demographic and geographic distributions were investigated. ArcGIS 10.0 was used to draw a geographic distribution of asymptomatic infected persons. Results: The screening programme recruited a total of 9,899,828 persons (response rate, 92.9%). The screening found no newly confirmed patients with COVID-19, and identified 300 asymptomatic infected cases (detection rate 0.303/10,000). In addition, 107 of 34,424 previously recovered patients with a history of COVID-19 diagnosis were tested positive (relapse rate, 0.31%). Virus culture of SARS-CoV-2 was negative for all 300 asymptomatic cases and all 107 recovered COVID-19 patients. A total of 1,174 close contacts of asymptomatic cases were traced and all of them had a negative nucleic acid testing result. Conclusions: Prevalence of COVID-19 nucleic acid test positivity was very low in the Wuhan general population, in recovered cases and in contacts of asymptomatic cases, five to eight weeks after the end of lockdown. These findings help resolve concerns about the post-lockdown risk of COVID-19 epidemic, and promote the recovery of economy and normal social life in Wuhan.

China has the largest number of vaccinated population around the world. However, there has been few research on the prevalence and associated factors of vaccine hesitation among parents of preschool children. Therefore, we conducted this study to evaluate the status of vaccine hesitation and its associated factors among children’s parents. A cluster random sampling method was adopted to select six community health service centers in Shenzhen, and parents of preschool children who were immunized in the vaccination outpatient department of the selected community health centers were surveyed using a structured self-administered questionnaire. Vaccine hesitation was assessed by the Parent Attitudes about Childhood Vaccines (PACV) scale. A multiple linear regression analysis was used to assess the associated factors for vaccine hesitance among children's parents. A total of 1025 parents (response rate, 93.18%) filled out the questionnaires. The average score of vaccine hesitancy was 43.37 (SD = 10.34) points. 23.61% of parents wanted children to get all the recommended shots, 53.76% of them did not believe that many of the illnesses shots prevent were severe, and 75.41% of them could not guarantee the information they receive about shots. The results of multiple linear regression showed that the number of children in the family (β = −0.93, 95% CI: −1.31 to 0.54), health status of the child (β = 0.47, 95% CI: 0.07 to 0.87), education level of the parents (Father: β = −0.84, 95%CI: −1.37 to 0.31; Mother: = −1.59, 95%CI:−2.13 to −1.05), and annual family income (β = 1.64, 95%CI: 1.13–2.16) were significantly associated with vaccine hesitation. The average score of parents' vaccine hesitation in Shenzhen was 43.37. The results showed that the number of children in the family, health status of the children, education level of the parents and annual family income were important factors associated with the parents' vaccine hesitation.

To explore the relationship between Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension (DASH) diet and serum uric acid (SUA) levels among the Chinese adult population, and verify the mediating effect of BMI between DASH diet and SUA levels. A total of 1125 adults were investigated using a self-administered food frequency questionnaire. SUA levels were determined by uricase colorimetry. The total DASH score ranged from 9 to 72. The relationship between the DASH diet and SUA levels was examined by multiple adjusted regression analysis. Method of Bootstrap was used to test the mediation effect of BMI in the correlation of the DASH diet and SUA levels. After multivariable adjustment, there was a significant linear relationship between the DASH diet and SUA (P < 0.001). Compared with the lowest group, SUA of participants in group of highest DASH diet score decreased by 34.907 (95% CI − 52.227, − 17.588; P trend < 0.001) μmol/L. The association between the DASH diet scores and SUA levels was partly mediated by BMI (− 0.26, Bootstrap 95% CI − 0.49, − 0.07), with 10.53% of the total effect being mediated. Adopting the DASH diet might be helpful in reducing SUA level, and the effect might be partly mediated by BMI.
