Context-aware computers rely o n user and physical models t o describe the context of a user. In this paper, we focus on the problem of developing and maintaining a physical model of the environment using a mobile computer. W e describe a set of tools f o r automatically creating and modifying three-dimensional contextual information. The tools can be utilized across multiple hardware platforms, with different capabilitaes, and operating in collaboration with one another. W e demonstrate the capabilities of the tools using two mobile platforms. One of them, a mobile augmented reality system is used t o construct a geometric model of a n indoor environment which is then visualized o n the same platform.
Scientific and Engineering Solutions. 1 All the pictures for the AR system in this paper were captured by mixing the output of our AR system together with data from a video camera. The low quality of the images is due to limitations with the current camera and video mixer configuration. If this paper is accepted, we shall obtain better images.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
