Information filtering for mobile augmented reality

Abstract: Scientific and Engineering Solutions. 1 All the pictures for the AR system in this paper were captured by mixing the output of our AR system together with data from a video camera. The low quality of the images is due to limitations with the current camera and video mixer configuration. If this paper is accepted, we shall obtain better images.

“…Companies like Information in Place have contracts with the Army, Air Force and Coast Guard, as land warrior and civilian use of AR may overlap in for instance navigational support, communications enhancement, repair and maintenance and emergency medicine. Extra benefits specific for military users may be training in large-scale combat scenarios and simulating real-time enemy action, as in the Battlefield Augmented Reality System (BARS) by Julier et al [81] and research by Piekarski et al [128]. Not overloading the user with too much information is critical and is being studied by Julier et al [82].…”

“…Presentation of virtual content in AR is a complex problem, because the virtual information must be integrated into the video image. Julier et al [16] proposed information filtering to reduce information overload and visual clutter. Livingston et al [19] compare different drawing styles for resolving depth cues and occlusion issues between real and virtual content.…”
