Since topological insulators were theoretically predicted and experimentally observed in semiconductors with strong spin-orbit coupling, increasing attention has been drawn to topological materials that host exotic surface states. These surface excitations are stable against perturbations since they are protected by global or spatial/lattice symmetries. Following the success in achieving various topological insulators, a tempting challenge now is to search for metallic materials with novel topological properties. Here we predict that orthorhombic perovskite iridates realize a new class of metals dubbed topological crystalline metals, which support zero-energy surface states protected by certain lattice symmetry. These surface states can be probed by photoemission and tunnelling experiments. Furthermore, we show that by applying magnetic fields, the topological crystalline metal can be driven into other topological metallic phases, with different topological properties and surface states.

Background The last decade has witnessed many achievements in China’s health care industry, but the industry still faces major challenges among which the uneven distribution of medical resources and the imbalance between supply and demand are the most pressing problems. Although mobile health (mHealth) services play a significant role in mitigating problems associated with health care delivery, their adoption rates have been low. Objective The objective of this study was to explore the impact of resource scarcity and resource accessibility on the adoption of mHealth from the perspective of resource competition, to examine the concerning factors, and to provide a theoretical basis for promoting mHealth in China. Methods We used 229,516 original registration records of outpatients to conduct an empirical analysis to examine the adoption of mHealth services from the perspective of resource competition. Results The adoption rate of mobile services for outpatients was low, accounting for only 31.5% (N=71,707). The empirical results indicated that resource scarcity (beta=.435, P=.01) and accessibility (beta=−.134, P=.02) have a significant impact on the adoption of mHealth. In addition, gender (beta=.073, P=.01) and age (beta=−.009, P<.001) are significantly related to adoption of mHealth. Experience with mHealth has a moderating role in the relationship between resource scarcity (beta=−.129, P=.02), accessibility (beta=.138, P=.04), and adoption of mHealth. Conclusions In this study we demonstrate that the external environment (resource scarcity and resource accessibility) has a significant impact on the adoption of mHealth. This study also demonstrates that experience with mHealth has a moderating role in the relationship between the elements of the external environment. Finally, we confirm that mHealth is a key factor in the delivery and allocation of medical resources and provide a theoretical basis for government agencies to develop policies on mHealth.

The amount of coherent quantum information that can be reliably transmitted down the memory Pauli channels with Markovian correlated noise is investigated. Two methods for evaluating the quantum capacity of the memory Pauli channels are proposed to try to trace the memory effect on the transmissions of quantum information. We show that the evaluation of quantum capacity can be reduced to the calculation of the initial memory state of each successive transmission. Furthermore, we derive quantum capacities of the memory phase flip channel, bit flip channel and bit-phase flip channel. Also, a lower bound of the quantum capacity of the memory depolarizing channel is obtained. An increase of the degree of memory of the channels has a positive effect on the increase of their quantum capacities.

Background. Atherosclerosis (AS) is a type of yellow substance containing cholesterol in the intima of large and middle arteries, which is mostly caused by fat metabolism disorders and neurovascular dysfunction. Materials and Methods. The GSE100927 data got analyzed to find out the differentially expressed genes (DEGs) using the limma package in R software. Gene Ontology (GO) and the Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) analyses of the DEGs were assessed by the Database for Annotation, Visualization, and Integrated Discovery (DAVID). The Search Tool for the Retrieval of Interacting Genes (STRING) visualized the Protein-Protein Interaction (PPI) network of the aggregated DEGs. GSEA software was used to verify the biological process. Result. We screened 1574 DEGs from 69 groups of atherosclerotic carotid artery and 35 groups of control carotid artery, including 1033 upregulated DEGs and 541 downregulated DEGs. DEGs of AS were chiefly related to immune response, Epstein-Barr virus infection, vascular smooth muscle contraction, and cGMP-PKG signaling pathway. Through PPI networks, we found that the hub genes of AS were PTAFR, VAMP8, RNF19A, VPRBP, RNF217, KLHL42, NEDD4, SH3RF1, UBE2N, PJA2, RNF115, ITCH, SKP1, FBXW4, and UBE2H. GSEA analysis showed that GSE100927 was concentrated in RIPK1-mediated regulated necrosis, FC epsilon receptor fceri signaling, Fceri-mediated NF KB activation, TBC rabgaps, TRAF6-mediated induction of TAK1 complex within TLR4 complex, and RAB regulation of trafficking. Conclusion. Our analysis reveals that immune response, Epstein-Barr virus infection, and so on were major signatures of AS. PTAFR, VAMP8, VPRBP, RNF217, KLHL42, and NEDD4 might facilitate the AS tumorigenesis, which could be new biomarkers for diagnosis and therapy of AS.

A cross-sectional study to show whether and how serum fasting homocysteine levels are associated with renal function changes in patients with hypertension. Homocysteine levels were associated with serum creatinine and blood urea nitrogen (BUN) levels with coefficients of 2.04 and 0.07, respectively, only in males and independent of confounders. In addition, low density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) levels were positively and left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) was negatively associated with serum creatinine level in males; age was positively associated with serum creatinine levels in females. Age was a common risk factor positively associated with BUN levels in both sexes, while total cholesterol (TC) levels and glycemic control were independent risk factors that were positively associated with BUN levels only in males. LDL-C levels and LVEF were negatively associated with BUN levels in females. Body mass index (BMI) was positively associated and hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c) levels, high density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) levels and the presence of stroke were negatively associated with serum uric acid levels in male patients. In contrast, only LVEF was positively associated with uric acid levels in females. In conclusion, homocysteine level is an independent risk factor associated with serum creatinine and BUN levels in male patients with hypertension.
