In this paper a system for measuring the wear of the overhead contact wire of the Spanish Railway Network is presented. The system is capable of measuring the cross section of the overhead wire without physical contact at high speed (160 km/h), with a rate of error less than 5 %. In the paper, the main challenges of the problem will be described and the selected solutions presented. The measuring method is based on an artijicial vision system. The system consists of five linear CCD cameras and a processing subsystem based on Transputers. The basic problems of the processing algorithm will also be described. Finally, the current state of the project will be presented and points of possible improvements will be shown.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
