This paper is a re-evaluation of a completed project (High Efficiency Demonstration Grant Using High Voltage SiC Device) from the perspective of accurate efficiency measurement; additionally, this paper discusses on device dv/dt estimation. A topology called the high-efficiency energy conversion system (HEECS), which is one variety of partial boost circuit topologies, is introduced to achieve efficiency over 99.5%. The topology exhibits a very high efficiency for applications in which the output voltage variation is within a certain ratio of the rated output voltage. This paper summarizes the basic features of the topology and theoretically derives the principle of high-efficiency realization. The high efficiency is measured by the back-to-back(BTB) connection of two converters, and the efficiency and accuracy on this method are theoretically derived and confirmed using the measured data of 3.3 kV output voltage at 100 kW output. The theoretical estimation of dv/dt for a 3.3 kV SiC device to reduce dual-active-bridge(DAB) soft-switching loss is discussed. Furthermore, a trend of DC-DC conversion efficiency is shown, and we show that the partial boost topology is a promising approach for achieving high efficiency dc-dc conversion.

A power management system is introduced to control the current flow between a Polymer Exchange Membrane fuel cell and a Li-Ion battery. Depending on the load current and the battery state of charge, the power management system decides the amount of the load power shared with each power source. The hybrid system operating power is divided into three categories which are named as Start-up state, Charging state and High power state based on the propulsion motor current. A unidirectional DC/DC power converter boosts the fuel cell system voltage and operates in voltage control mode or current control mode depending on the operating power state. Similarly, a bidirectional power converter is developed to boost the battery voltage to the DC bus voltage during the high power state. The bidirectional converter operates in buck mode during the charging power state.Based on the fuel cell current decided by the power management system, the fuel cell air supply system controller varies the inlet air pressure and flow rate to prevent the fuel cell oxygen concentration loss. The referenced model is used to obtain the optimum air pressure which produces maximum net power from the fuel cell system. Then, the air supply system is controlled to obtained the optimum pressure ratio and hence maximized the net power output. The fuel cell system power output with optimum compressure power is compared with the constant compressure power. The results shows that, the dynamic control of the air supply system with the power management decisions increase the fuel cell system net power output considerably.

In DC-DC converter-per-photovoltaic (PV) panel architectures, the converter must have high efficiency and low cost. Due to its simplicity, the Boost converter is normally used when the output voltage of the converter have to be higher than the PV panel voltage. Some other solutions with higher efficiency and low cost can be also found in the literature for the same application, such as the series connection topology converters. In this type of topologies a part of the power is directly transferred from the source to the load, increasing the converter efficiency. This paper analyses the static and dynamic characteristics of the Series Connection Flyback (SCF) converter. A comparison between this topology and the Boost converter one, applied to a photovoltaic panel, has also done. A 300W prototype validates the proper operation of the SCF converter with efficiencies higher than 97%, including the control losses.
