This current research aims at exploring the teachers communication strategies in online learning context, i.e. synchronous and asynchronous, explaining the challenges and solutions, and finding out the factors influencing. This qualitative research employed observation and interview to collect the data. The participants were two teachers of five grade at one of Bilingual schools in Mojokerto. Source and technique triangulation were carried out to get the validity of the data. In analyzing the data, the researchers displayed the percentage to know the dominant data, then explore the characteristics and interpret the intentions, challenges, solutions, and factors. The findings revealed that translation, praising, code-switching, comprehension check, and other repetition were the most dominant strategy used in synchronous mode. The teachers did not fulfill all components of strategies in explaining the materials in asynchronous mode. The challenges coped by the teachers were not merely due to online classroom; nevertheless, the teachers initiated the solutions. There were four interrelated factors influencing the use of communication strategies. The strategies employed in both synchronous and asynchronous modes were generally to facilitates students in online context. This research suggests that teachers communication strategies are beneficial to encourge students in learning English especially in online context. Some aspects found in this research are further discussed.
<p align="justify">Technology in informal language learning is inevitably in this digital era since it offers opportunities and brings positive impacts on English language learners. Some related studies are concerned with a particular approach. Therefore, this study looks at a broader lens to investigate individuals' differences in developing a second language, and to what extent technology contributes to their second language acquisition by employing the transdisciplinary framework of Douglas Fir Group (2016). This case study involved two participants, and the data was collected through semi-structured interviews. The findings indicate that individual differences in learning English are influenced by social interaction (micro), environment (meso), and belief (macro). Technology is utilized not only as a medium of learning English but also as an identity construction. How ideology and technology are interrelated is further discussed.</p>
Pendapat bahwa sajian bahasa yang bermacam-macam bahasa atau menjadikan multi language pada anak usia dini akan mengakibatkan kebingungan bagi anak tidak selalu benar. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis berbagai hipotesis pemerolehan bahasa kedua. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif melalui study kasus. Teknik pengumpulan data dengan observasi, dokumentasi dan wawancara. Teknik pengumpulan data juga dilakukan dengan teknik simak bebas libat cakap. Subjek penelitian ini adalah anak usia 5,5 tahun. Data penelitian berupa pemerolehan bahasa kedua. Hasil observasi menunjukkan bahwa subjek merasa senang dalam memperoleh sajian beberapa bahasa. Proses mentransfer pemerolehan berbahasa kedua dilakukan melalui beberapa hipotesis pemerolehan bahasa, yaitu hipotesis input, hipotesis mitasi atau meniru dan hipotesis respon fisik secara total. Wujud hasil linguistik berupa kata benda, kata sifat, kata kerja, kata ganti kepemilikan, kata ganti, dan kata tanya.
The speed of technology development facilities students in learning English digitally. They could express and use English in informal digital environment through social media and learning English application or resources. Informal Digital Learning of English (IDLE) contributes to students language enhancement. This study is want to dig in about the use of digital learning to informal and independent learning of English. Therefore, this research aims to explore how IDLE activity can engage receptive skills in university students and to explore how IDLE receptive skill activity can develop university students’ receptive skills. This study found that each individul can experience an increase in English receptive skills by going through the stages of learning using social media and English learning applications. IDLE-based learning can be built through the initiative and willingness of each individual, because this learning is not tied to a specific schedule or material to be studied. Each individual can organize and determine how they learn according to their wishes.
