In der chemischen Wirkung ist also das Maignen-Filter dem Filter von C h a m b e r l a n d weit iiberlegen. Die feste Substanz wird auf etwa l/3 vermindert, Ammoniak und salpetrige Saure werden, wenn auch nicht vollkommen entfernt, doch erheblich verringert und sehr beachtenswerth ist die fast vollkommene Entfernung der organischen Substanzen und die vollstandige Entfernung des Eisens. EiIie concentrirte Liisung ron Bleiacetat, welche mit Schwefelwasserstoff einen starken schwarzen Niederschlag gab, zeigte nach dem Filtriren keine Spur einer Bleireaction. Auf die Chloride scheint auch dieses Filter ohne Wirkuiig zu sein.Das M a i g n e n -F i l t e r rerdient auch noch in einer anderen Bezirhung unsere Keachtung, und zwar zum Entkalken und Weichermachen ron hartem Wasser.
