THE STREAM APPROACH (SCIENCE-TECHNOLOGY-RELIGION-ENGINEERING-ARTS-MATHEMATICS) PROVIDES STUDENTS 'THINKING HABITSAbstractThis research develops an Applied Biology learning program using a science-technology-religion-engineering-arts-mathematics (STREAM) approach that can equip students with habits of mind. These thinking habits include systems thinking skills. The Applied Biology learning content includes compost making, nata de soya making, and biopesticides making. The research was carried out in the Microbiology course on the topic of Applied Microbiology. During the lectures, the learning process combines the 3Es learning cycle model (exploration-explanation-expansion phase), Jigsaw-type cooperative, and a combination of various learning methods. Students are trained in scientific process skills and designing /engineering skills. The products of the program consisted of modifications to the syllabus and the microbiology course matrix, performance tasks on students' worksheet, the STREAM approach scheme, system thinking skills' question instruments, concept map rubrics and scores. The resul indicate that system thinking skills in Applied Biology learning content could be equipped to students using the STREAM approach.
This study aimed to analyze how the ability of biology teachers forum (called as MGMP Biology teachers) on the 21 st century TPCK. This case study was conducted on 10 MGMP Biology teachers from different schools as the participants. The data were collected by using a questionnaire. The data analysis was conducted descriptively based on 7 components in TPCK of the 21st century: Pedagogical Knowledge (PK), Content Knowledge (CK), Technological Knowledge (TK), Pedagogical Content Knowledge (PCK), Technological Pedagogical Knowledge (TPK), Technological Content Knowledge (TCK) and Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge (TPCK). The results showed that the mean PK (2.90), CK (2.40), TK (2.25), PCK (1.92), TPK (1.93) and TPACK (1.97) TCK with averages (1.73) was categorized as very less ability. This result shows that the ability of 21st century TPCK of the teachers still needs to be improved on the aspects of content mastery, pedagogy and technology.
This study aims to obtain a description of improving the students' skills to produce practical report products. Research on the study of Plant Physiology is the practice of making Compost and Aquaponic. The method was mixed embedded. The primary data was quantitative data in the form of result of product assessment of lab report. The supplementary data was qualitative data. It was obtained from interview and field notes. The research was done to one class consisting of 44 students in Biology Education Program. The sample was chosen purposively. Instruments are student worksheets, product assessment sheets and scoring, interview sheets, and field notes. Indicator of product rubric on aspects of Science, Technology, Religion, Engineering, Art and Math. The data analysis was done by counting the increase of score on the product of the report of Compost and Aquaponic laboratory. The results showed that students' ability in the aspects of Science did not increase, it is in contrast with the ability of students in aspects of Technology, Religion, Engineering, Art and Mathematics have increased. The implications of the research are the habit of using STREAM approach in other lectures.
This study involving prospective science teachers at SMP aims to portray the ability of Pedagogical Content Knowledge (PCK) of the teachers via resource folios. Resource folios in question are the core and PaP-eRs made by the prospective science teachers when carrying out the "Program Pengalaman Lapangan" (PPL). The subjects were six candidates conducting PPL at a junior high school and were assigned by the class teachers to teach Grade VII. The instrument used as a means of collecting data in this research is the CoRe and PaP-eRs. The instrument has been analyzed using an analytical format. The result of CoRe and PaP-eRs analysis shows that the learning activities are carried out on the whole in accordance with lesson plans that have been rendered previously. However, the instruction plan is focused more on the CoRe content materials to be studied, while the narrative of learning implementation in the PaP-eRs is emphasized more on learning activities. The results show that the PCK ability of prospective teachers still do not show the integration between content capability and pedagogical ability.
Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) is crucial program hold by United Nations in realizing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). It is necessary to prepare competent teacher which can be started with debriefing through lectures. The purpose of this study was to analyze the prospective biology teacher's knowledge about ESD. The ESD competencies which were analyzed in this study including knowledge, actions, ethical values, attitudes, and emotions. The research subjects used were 30 students of their third year biology teacher education and taking Kapita Selekta Biology course in Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia (UPI). This descriptive study used a questionnaire about knowledge on ESD given to prospective biology teachers before they were given a briefing about ESD. The data gained were analyzed using percentage. The results showed that the persentage of knowledge of prospective biology teachers about ESD was still low (under 50%). Based on the findings, it is necessary to do ESD debriefing so that prospective biology teachers are able to integrate ESD in their learning design
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
