Growth abnormality is common in children with cerebral palsy. Malnutrition and overnutrition both exist in children with cerebral palsy. Characteristics at different age stages and motor functional levels should be taken into consideration in the management of growth and nutrition in this population.
Population PK models accurately described the PK profiles of piperacillin/tazobactam in infants less than 2 months of age. The results indicated that higher doses or more frequent dosing regimens may be required for controlling infection in this population in NICU.
Objective To study the risk factors for recurrent ectopic pregnancy (REP).Design A retrospective case-control study.Setting A university medical centre.Population 554 women with a history of ectopic pregnancy (EP) were included. Among them were 181 women with current EP, 184 women with current intrauterine pregnancy (IUP) and 189 nonpregnant women (NonP).Methods The three groups were matched at a ratio of 1:1 with respect to current age, age of initial EP and gestational week of initial EP. Socio-demographic characteristics, reproductive history, gynaecological and surgical history, and experience of contraception were compared among the three groups. A multivariable logistic regression analysis was used to adjust for confounders and calculate adjusted odds ratios (AORs). Conclusions Women with history of infertility or salpingotomy should be alert for the recurrence of EP. Multiparous women are less likely to suffer REP. We propose the use of condoms for effective prevention of REP.Keywords Case-control study, contraception, recurrent ectopic pregnancy, risk factors.
Abstract. The present prospective study aimed to evaluate the effects of E6/E7 protein detection by western blotting on cervical cancer (CC) early screening compared with detection by Hybrid Capture 2 (HC2) test and ThinPrep cytological test (TCT) in a Chinese population. A total of 450 cases of cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN) suspected samples (positive in ≥1 indicator of TCT and HC2 test) were recruited from women who were treated at the International Peace Maternity and Child Health Hospital (Shanghai, China) from March 2014 to February 2015. Each sample was analyzed by cytological test. In addition, human papillomavirus (HPV) DNA examination by Hybrid Capture Tube test and E6/E7 protein expression detection by western blotting were performed in all samples, as well as histologic diagnosis to determine the stage of CIN. The results revealed that, for the diagnosis of CIN2 + , although the sensitivity of E6/E7 protein detection was lower than that of HC2 test (71.3 vs. 96.6%, respectively), the specificity was markedly improved (67.6 vs. 5.9%, respectively). Compared with that of TCT, the sensitivity of E6/E7 protein detection was much higher (36.2 vs. 71.3%, respectively), but the specificity was lower (88.2 vs. 67.6%, respectively). In the present study, HPV E6/E7 protein expression was evaluated as a potential new biomarker for CC, with satisfactory diagnostic values for HPV types 16 and 18. The relative diagnostic value may be further improved by combination of E6/E7 messenger RNA detection.
Background: It is well-documented that the dysregulation of trace elements may be involved in the pathogenesis of asthma. However, the precise changes of trace elements levels in asthma cases remain elusive. We established whether trace elements levels were associated with asthma susceptibility by pooling case-control studies. Methods: 34 studies were included. We extracted the standard mean differences (SMDs) and corresponding 95% confidence intervals (CIs). A pooled-analysis was performed. Results: No marked difference (95% CI:-1.437-0.218, p = 0.149) of Se level between asthma and controls. Significant difference (95% CI: 0.112-1.032, p = 0.015; 95% CI: 0.376-1.331, p < 10 −4) of Cu level between asthma and controls was noted among overall populations and Asians. No marked difference of Zn level between asthma and controls was observed among overall populations, Asians, Caucasians and Africans. Significant difference (95% CI:-0.567 to −0.238, p < 10 −4) of Mg level between asthma and controls was noted among Asians. Marked difference (95% CI: 0.258-2.864, p = 0.019; 95% CI: 0.270-3.282, p = 0.021) of Fe level between asthma and controls was noted among overall populations and Asians. Age had no impact on the pooled SMDs of Se, Cu, Zn, Mg and Fe between asthma and controls. Sensitivity analyses did not change the overall results. No publication bias was noted for overall populations. Conclusions: Alterations of Cu, Mg and Fe levels may be a biomarker of asthma risk among specific populations. Further studies should be performed to clarify the strength of these elements in asthma.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
