This study investigates how socioeconomic, environmental, and institutional variables affect the growth of cattle ranching in the state of Pará, Brazilian Amazon. Covering the period from 1995 to 2019, we used an econometric model based on the Ordinary Least Squares method. Resultingly, we found that the price of fat cattle and the supply of rural credit exert a positive effect on herd growth. The deforestation rates are directly associated with herd expansion. More precisely, the variable for the deforestation rate, lagged by two periods, significantly impacts herd increment in the present time. Furthermore, a essential step towards increasing the cattle herd was the creation of the Agricultural Defense Agency of the state of Pará. Overall, this study shows that the expansion of cattle ranching in Pará is a multivariate phenomenon determined by socioeconomic, environmental, and institutional dynamics of the regional and national economies.

The study evaluates the behavior of production and prices in the beef cattle market in  Rondônia, Brazilian Amazon. Covering the period from 1995 to 2020, we used statistical  analysis based on the classical multiplicative method of time series. Resultingly, we found  that the occurrence of annual seasonality in prices, with a reduction in the first half of the  year and an increase in the second half of the year, corresponding to the bovine and  off-season harvests, respectively. It was possible to observe the existence of three   complete livestock cycles, with an average duration of five years. Trend, seasonality, and  cycles of livestock in Rondônia, over the last 25 years, expose a series of relevant information for decision-making by agents in the livestock production chain, in addition to contributing to the understanding of the dynamics of this important agricultural market for Rondônia and Brazilian economy.

Realizou-se uma revisão sistemática para identificar as produções científicas que analisam as diferentes dimensões dos sistemas de produção da pecuária bovina de corte na Amazônia brasileira, nas publicações em periódicos nacionais e internacionais nas bases Scopus, Scielo, Web of Science e Portal de Periódicos da Capes, no período de 1990 a 2021. Após seleção criteriosa adotada na revisão sistemática, foram selecionados 127 artigos. Dentre os estados que compõem a Amazônia brasileira, os estados do Pará, Mato Grosso, Rondônia, Tocantins e Acre apresentaram os maiores percentuais de estudos no período analisado. Foram observados estudos nas diversas áreas de conhecimento envolvendo a pecuária bovina, com destaque para as áreas de economia e gestão de sistemas pecuários, pastagem e forragicultura, sanidade e nutrição animal e com menor frequência nas áreas de melhoramento genético, reprodução e bem-estar animal. Conclui-se que o tema pecuário bovino de corte na Amazônia brasileira tem sido amplamente investigado em diversas áreas, dada sua importância produtiva e econômica para o agronegócio regional e nacional, constituindo um campo de estudo diversificado. Há necessidade de se ampliar pesquisas com abordagens voltadas para sistemas pecuários sustentáveis, envolvendo avaliações de impacto econômico e social, inovações tecnológicas sobre recuperação e renovação de pastagens, assim como pesquisas sobre as condições de bem-estar animal. Nas duas últimas décadas, a criação e ampliação de programas de pós-graduação na área de produção animal, em universidades públicas da Amazônia brasileira, tem sido fundamental para a estruturação de um importante estoque de conhecimentos sobre os sistemas de produção bovinos.

ABSTRACT Elephant grass silages have high moisture content, causing nutrient loss, mainly by effluent production. The use of moisture absorbent additives, such as patauá, Oenocarpus bataua meal, can be a strategy to reduce losses in these silages. The aim of this study was to determine the fermentation losses, microbiological composition, fermentative characteristics, and chemical composition of elephant grass silage with increasing levels of inclusion of patauá meal. The experiment was conducted in a completely randomized design, with four concentrations of patauá meal (7%, 14%, 21%, and 28%, based on fresh matter) and a control without patauá, and five replicates. The elephant grass was collected manually after 60 days of growth. After chopping, the grass was homogenized, mixed with the patauá meal according to the established treatments, and ensiled in experimental silos of 15 L. The inclusion of patauá meal in elephant grass silage had positive effects on the chemical composition and effluent loss. It significantly increased dry matter, organic matter, crude protein, nitrogen insoluble in neutral detergent and acid, ethereal extract, lignin, and non-fibrous carbohydrates of the silages. It also reduced effluent losses, neutral and acid detergent fiber contents, and cellulose. Our findings contribute towards reducing the environmental impact caused by the production of effluents during ensilage of tropical grasses and providing a potential use for the residue from the production of patauá oil, thus avoiding disposal in the environment.

Neste estudo apresenta-se uma conjuntura da produção de ovos de codorna no estado do Pará, a partir de uma análise do período de 2000-2019, utilizando dados secundários de série temporal de produção de ovos e quantitativo de cabeças de codornas, obtidos junto ao Banco de Dados do IBGE. Foram estimados o Quociente Locacional (QL) que indica a especialização de uma região em uma determinada atividade ou setor e o Coeficiente de Gini Locacional (CGL) que identifica a concentração espacial. Os resultados do estudo mostram que no período analisado a mesorregião Metropolitana de Belém perdeu força participativa na produção paraense colocando as mesorregiões Sudeste e Sudoeste Paraense com a maior concentração da produção do estado. Os municípios de Altamira, Paragominas e Santarém se apresentam como os maiores produtores de ovos de codorna do estado do Pará. Apesar disso, a produção de ovos de codorna paraense, nos últimos anos, se apresenta em declínio e redução das microrregiões especializadas, observando-se elevada concentração espacial.

Buffalo milk has a high nutritional value, with high fat, protein, and mineral levels. Its derivatives yield exceeds by 40% those derived from bovine milk. As a way to take advantage of this quality, Greek yogurt (Labneh) is an alternative to add value to this important product. Thus, this work aims to prepare Greek yogurt with buffalo milk, added with açaí jelly (Euterpe oleracea Mart.), to carry out physical-chemical, microbiological, sensory, and texture profile analyzes in buffalo milk, Greek yogurt, and in açaí jelly. Natural Greek yogurt had an acceptability index of 90.11% and Greek yogurt with açaí jelly, 93.11%, which constitutes an alternative for regional raw material valorization, with excellent acceptability, high nutritional value, and outstanding physical-chemical and microbiological quality. Thus, this derivative is indicated for special programs supported by the City Halls and/or Government of Pará state, as a way of generating income and employment for communities producing buffalo milk and açaí.

This study evaluates the effects of socioeconomic, environmental, and institutional variables on the bee honey market in the state of Pará, from 1990 to 2019. The generalized method of moments was used to create the econometric model for estimation. The results show that the supply of honey is price-inelastic and that the rate of forest deforestation strongly impacts honey production. The creation of the Federação das Associações de Apicultores do Estado do Pará was denoted an important institutional landmark for the beekeeping production chain; however, the effects of incentive policies such as rural credit are limited and do not meet the needs of beekeepers. Institutional market policies are ineffective and rarely accessed by beekeepers; however, they represent an opportunity to diversify marketing channels. Honey is a product of biodiversity that is economically classified as a superior good and its demand is price-inelastic. Honey and its derivatives lack marketing strategies to enable their competitive insertion in new markets and government programs; these would enable access to broader markets in cities and lead to the acquisition of more consumers in the future.

O Programa Nacional de Alimentação Escolar (PNAE) é um importante instrumento de política pública destinado a garantir alimentação escolar, saudável e adequada. Em 2009, passou a disciplinar compras institucionais específicas para a merenda escolar derivadas da agricultura familiar. Este trabalho tem o objetivo de analisar o PNAE no estado do Pará a partir de instrumentos de gestão e controle de políticas públicas governamentais por meio de abordagem qualitativa com a utilização de método descritivo a partir de informações obtidas dos relatórios do Programa de Sorteios Públicos da Controladoria Geral da União (CGU), relativos ao período 2010 a 2021. Os resultados mostram problemas na execução do Programa, no estado, relativo as irregularidades nas aquisições, compras da agricultura familiar abaixo dos 30%, condições precárias na elaboração e oferta irregular de merenda e, fraca atuação dos Conselhos de Alimentação Escolar (CAE).
