Physics teaching is undergoing a re-appraisal at the moment, with the development of a new approach and fresh techniques. Recent work in Scotland on the presentation of Newtonian mechanics at school level is described. This involves, for example, `frictionless' devices and stroboscopic photography. Concepts such as momentum and energy are developed by means of new class experiments and demonstrations.
