“…The pattern of secondary and tertiary education and examination in Scotland differs from that in other parts of the United Kingdom (Johnston 1969, Ritchie 1970 the age of transfer from primary to secondary school is 12+ ; the secondary school course leading to qualification for university entrance is of five years duration; a university honours course occupies a further four years.
