Com os avanços da tecnologia e da comunicação eletrônica, novas equipes estão se desenvolvendo: são as equipes virtuais, ou grupos formados por pessoas com um objetivo comum que desenvolvem trabalho interdependente primariamente por meios eletrônicos. Apesar do potencial de expansão de negócios e flexibilidade que estas equipes trazem para empresas e funcionários, estruturá-las traz novos desafios para a gestão empresarial. Este estudo analisa as variáveis que podem interferir na implementação destas equipes, a partir da experiência de uma equipe virtual estruturada para operar um centro de distribuição têxtil. Os instrumentos de pesquisa foram: observação participante, análise documental e questionários com os membros da equipe virtual. Os resultados sugerem que, nos relacionamentos intermediados por tecnologia, problemas de comunicação podem ser maximizados, comprometendo a eficácia das interações e da equipe. A equipe estudada não conseguiu superar alguns dos obstáculos comuns às equipes virtuais, o que pode ter contribuído para o insucesso do projeto.
Este artigo resume as descobertas de Cas Wouters, constantes do livro Sex and Manners (2004), sem tradução para o português. A obra analisa as mudanças nas maneiras e códigos de condutas pesquisadas em livros de etiquetas americanos, holandeses, ingleses e alemães; do final século XIX ao final do século XX; descrevendo mudanças no relacionamento entre homens e mulheres, principalmente nas formas de cortejo, no contexto da crescente emancipação feminina do século XX. As mudanças nos livros de etiquetas revelam o desaparecimento de velhas regras e o aparecimento de novas, documentando como as mulheres passaram da esfera privada para a vida pública, e como estas mudanças implicaram em um aumento de consciência erótica e sexual, envolvendo dois tipos de desejos: o anseio por gratificação sexual e o anseio por intimidade duradoura. A busca de equilíbrio entre estes desejos, conceitualizada como o "equilíbrio da sensualidade", passou por extremos que foram desde o amor desexualizado até contato sexual despersonalizado, em um processo de experimentação e erro que permeou o século XX. Estas mudanças dificilmente poderiam ser concebidas sem as inovações e implementações tecnológicas: a pílula, as mudanças nos meios de transporte, as tecnologias de comunicação (do telefone à Internet)-exerceram pressões forçando novas regras de comportamento e sentimento, forçando um afrouxamento, durante o século XX, das formas estritas de controle social e autocontrole desenvolvidos no século XIX. Neste processo social, as pressões para o desenvolvimento de um tipo de personalidade de "terceira-natureza", com capacidade de descontrolar controladamente os controles emocionais, se iniciaram.
