As informações contidas nos rótulos dos alimentos devem ser de fácil entendimento e seguir os critérios das legislações para melhor compreensão dos componentes do alimento. De uma forma geral, a indústria alimentícia faz uso de aditivos do tipo corantes, para minimizar os efeitos tecnológicos sofridos durante o processamento dos alimentos. Sabe-se que a única função dos corantes alimentares é conferir cor, não oferecendo nenhum valor nutritivo. Estudos evidenciam a ocorrência de reações adversas a curto e longo prazo, devido ao consumo de alimentos coloridos artificialmente. Reações essas que variam desde alergias até carcinogenicidade. O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar a presença de corantes nos preparados sólidos para refresco, associando esta informação as afecções mais comuns na população, a partir de informações contidas nos rótulos. Para esta pesquisa foram utilizadas 4 marcas de preparados sólidos para refresco em pó nos sabores: laranja, morango, maracujá, limão e uva, comercializados no mercado local de Campina Grande –PB, identificando os corantes apresentados nos rótulos por cada marca para conferir a cor desejada. Nos rótulos estudados, foi verificado a presença de alguns tipos de corante inorgânico, corante orgânico sintético artificial e corante caramelo. Foi verificado que há uma relação de uso destes produtos principalmente pelo público infantil, o que pode levar a alteração do comportamento humano, ocasionar transtorno de déficit de atenção, hiperatividade e até potencial mutagênico.
