The study investigates the role of entrepreneurial passion and creativity as antecedents of entrepreneurial intentions, applying social cognitive theory as an underpinning framework. Specifically, this research focuses on American homebrewing, seen as a potential incubator for entrepreneurs. Results demonstrate entrepreneurial passion having a strong positive relationship with entrepreneurial intentions, even when entrepreneurial self-efficacy is introduced as a mediator. Conversely, the relationship between creativity and entrepreneurial intentions is mediated by entrepreneurial self-efficacy, confirming that individuals also need to feel self-efficacious enough to pursue entrepreneurial career. The findings advance the understanding of nascent entrepreneurship phenomenon within a particular hobby context.
Endogeneity bias represents a critical issue for the analysis of cause and effect relationships. Although the existence of endogeneity can produce severely biased results, it has hitherto received only limited attention from researchers in marketing and related disciplines. Thus, this article aims to sensitize researchers intending to publish in the Industrial Marketing Management (IMM) journal to the topic of endogeneity. It outlines the problem of endogeneity bias, and provides an overview of potential sources, i.e. omission of variables, errors-invariables, and simultaneous causality. Furthermore, the article shows ways to deal with endogeneity, including techniques based on instrumental variables as well as instrument-free approaches. Our methodological contribution relates to providing researchers aiming to publish in IMM with an initial overview of the causes of and remedies for endogeneity bias, which should be considered in designing research projects as well as when analysing data to obtain insights into cause and effect relationships (causal models).
Despite extensive research on the effect of organisational learning processes on firm performance, how and when a propensity to learn influences the export performance of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) remains unclear. Using multiple-informant and time-lagged primary data from 242 SMEs in a sub-Saharan African market, this study examines the roles of marketing programme planning and host country psychic distance in linking export learning orientation to export performance. Findings from the study show that increases in both export learning orientation and marketing programme planning are associated with increases in export performance. In addition, the study finds that while increases in psychic distance weaken the effect of export learning orientation on export performance, it strengthens the effect of marketing programme planning on export performance. These findings draw attention to the idea that cognitive distance between home and host country markets may play a paradoxical role in explaining when organisational learning activities may help or hurt exporting SMEs.
Through a tailored survey targeting homebrewing communities in the United States, this research investigates environmental factorsfeedback, collaboration offers, and awards receivedtriggering individuals who are not yet entrepreneurs to develop intentions of starting a business based on their hobby. The study specifically focuses on the role these factors play in influencing the three dimensions of entrepreneurial alertness phenomenon: scanning and search, association and connection, and evaluation and judgment. The results of a series of hierarchical regressions complemented by a fuzzy set qualitative comparative analysis (fsQCA) show that receiving positive feedback or collaboration offers from fellow hobbyists can stimulate individuals' entrepreneurial alertness.
