L’intérêt porté aux parures du corps par les historiens, historiens de l’art et archéologues s’est largement modifié, renouvelé et amplifié depuis un siècle, en particulier ces quinze/vingt dernières années. Cet article présente ainsi les différentes orientations de la recherche consacrée au vêtement, entendu au sens large. Il montre, en outre, qu’étudier les parures du corps est un biais pertinent et fécond pour mieux comprendre le fonctionnement des sociétés anciennes et la place qu’y occupent les individus ; aussi, met-il en exergue tout l’intérêt d’adopter une démarche historique et anthropologique.
