In dem Diamantraumgitter ist ein eigenartiges, tricyclisches Geriist von zehn Kohlenstoffatomen enthalten. Es fehlte nicht an Versuchen, zu Verbindungen mit diesem Geriist, welche man mit dem Namen ,,diamantoide" Verbindungen bezeichnete, auf synthetischem Wege zu gelangenl). Eine besondere Aufmerksamkeit verdient der Kohlenwasserstoff C&Hlr, das synm. Tricyclodecan (IV, Abbild. l), zu welchem man durch B e s e b der freien Kohlenstoff-Valenzen in dem erwiihnten Geriist durch Waserstoff-Atome gelangt. In einer Arbeit, welche anscheinend wenig beachtet wurde (wenigstens wurde sie von den Fachgenossen, welche sich mit Jiamantoiden" Stoffen befdten, nicht zitiert). beschneben Landa und MachdCek*) einen Kohlenwasserstoff CloHls aus der Naphtha von Hodonin, dem sie die ,,diamantoide" Komtitution IV zuteilten. Die Konstitution wurde aus den auffallenden physikalischen Eigenschaften von R. LukeSa) intuitiv erfaBt und auch duch rontgenographische Untersuchungen gestiitzt. Landa und Mach4rek nannten ihren Kohlenwasserstoff Adamantan4), und wir behalten, unter anderem aus Prioritiitsgriinden, den wohlklingenden Namen bei, obwohl spater das Wort Von synthetischen Versuchen hatten nur die Bemiihungen B o ttgers6), zu ,,diamantoiden" Verbindungen zu gelangen, Erfolg.
