This article describes the strategies and activities of the Forest Integrity Network. One of the most important underlying causes of forest degradation is corruption and related illegal logging. The Forest Integrity Network is a timely new initiative to combat forest corruption. Its approach is to form global multi-stakeholder coalitions between the civil, private and public sectors and to create synergies between organizations fighting corruption, like Transparency International, and actors Aarti Gupta is currently a Visiting Fellow with the Technology and Agrarian Development Group (TAO) of Wageningen University in The Netherlands.Ute Siebert is the current FIN Program Manager and Coordinator at the TI Secretariat in Berlin.Given that FIN represents a collective effort of numerous institutions and individuals, many of the ideas in this article have been developed in conjunction with FIN supporters, particularly Pierre Landell-Mills and John Spears, Co-Chairs of FIN's Steering Committee.
