In an era of software crisis, the move of firms towards distributed software development teams is being challenged by emerging collaboration issues. On this matter, the open-source phenomenon may shed some light, as successful cases on distributed collaboration in the open-source community have been recurrently reported. In this paper, we explore the collaboration networks in the WebKit open-source project, by mining WebKit's source-code version-control-system data with Social Network Analysis (SNA). Our approach allows us to observe how key events in the mobile-device industry have affected the WebKit collaboration network over time. With our findings, we show the explanation power from network visualizations capturing the collaborative dynamics of a high-networked software project over time; and highlight the power of the open-source fork concept as a nexus enabling both features of competition and collaboration. We also reveal the WebKit project as a valuable research site manifesting the novel notion of open-coopetition, where rival firms collaborate with competitors in the open-source community.
This paper examines the impact of the newly appointed CEOs on firms future investment decisions and whether the relation is affected by the equity-based compensation, corporate governance provisions and other CEO characteristics. Using CEO turnover data from 1992-2004, the results show that new CEOs with high options-based compensation, following forced turnover and with shorter organization tenure, are associated with high R&D and advertisement investments. These results are consistent with the managerial incentive effect and the dismissal effect.
Purpose – The governance of information technology outsourcing (ITO) has been identified as an essential determinant for ITO success. Prior studies have shed light on effective governance structures in different organizational contexts. This study aims to advance this prior knowledge by exploring how interpersonal networks, as an important aspect of such context, reflect and influence ITO governance. Design/methodology/approach – A single case study was conducted from a vendor’s perspective in an ITO dyad. Social network analysis was leveraged to reveal the interpersonal networks, with whole-network analysis on 24 team members in an ITO vendor company. In addition, open-ended interviews with six selected team members were utilized to identify the perceived governance structure. Findings – The findings of this study suggest certain features of interpersonal networks, i.e. network density and cross-network comparison, can reflect governance structure in multiple aspects. Meanwhile, the authors also argue that interpersonal networks can influence the form of governance structure. Research limitations/implications – As a single case study, the context of the research site cannot be ignored in the inference of findings. To increase the confidence for further generalization, future empirical studies are needed especially in contrasting sites, such as ITO relations based on network governance. Originality/value – This study associates intra-organizational characteristics of the vendor to the inter-organizational governance structure of the ITO relationship. It also provides an innovative methodology for both researchers and practitioners to assess ITO governance structure.
The G20 Sustainable Finance Report 2022 was adopted at the G20 Summit in 2022, signaling a global agreement on green finance in a growing number of nations. Since then, the use of financial instruments to accelerate the transition to green development and meet the dual carbon goal has gained significant public attention. In this essay, 18 variables that hinder the development of green finance are compiled and identified using a literature review methodology. The explanatory structural model (ISM) model is used to analyze the relationship mechanism between the impeding factors and the promotion of green finance, and the Matrices Impacts Croises-Multiplication Appliance Classement (MICMAC) approach is used to categorize the 18 impeding factors into the driving force-dependency classification. The results show that improving the surface factors with strong dependencies, such as willingness to use green transition funds, scope of supporting industries, capability of industrial restructuring, and difficulty of application, etc., is especially important for promoting green finance. Focus should also be placed on the deeper factors with strong driving forces, such as the lack of regulation of relevant national laws and the restricted freedom of local policy implementation, etc. This paper takes the hindering mechanism of green finance promotion as the research object, and researches to get the hindering chain of the influence of four different dimensional mechanisms on green finance promotion, which is helpful to provide the solution direction when green finance development faces problems.

Social Network Analysis (SNA) was conducted for whole-network analysis on 24 team members in an ITO vendor company.In addition, open-ended interviews with six selected team members were utilized to identify the governance form from the vendor's perspective. The findings suggest that the similarity between formal and informal interpersonal networks reflects a hierarchical form of governance; and the hierarchy governance is in turn reinforced by the geographically dispersed nature of team members.
