Wood has long been used by man for a wide range of purposes, including the production of furniture, civil construction and structural elements. Aiming the construction industry, the use of glued laminated timber proves to be an excellent alternative to constructive technology, allowing the production of elements with different shapes and sizes. It is important that the bonded wood presents resistance to the stresses imposed on its use. This way, the present study aims to make a comparative analysis of shear strength values of Glued Laminated Timber (also called glulam) through the analysis of studies done by several authors that used different types of wood and adhesives. The results found by these authors were verified based on the ASTM-D-5751 and the Brazilian standard ABNT NBR 7190. It was concluded that the glued joints analyzed obtained satisfactory resistance according to the American standard. However, the majority did not comply with the parameters required by the Brazilian standard.

The possibility of buckling is associated with the combination of compression and bending effects, so structures that work fundamentally to compression can be affected, such as columns and arches. Thus, in this work the critical buckling loads in two-hinged circular arches subjected to the action of concentrated force in the radial direction are investigated. The position of the force is considered as variable along the structure, and four points of force's application in the arch are analyzed. The force method and resolution of the differential equation of elastic line for curved bars are applied in the instability analysis and determination of critical buckling loads. An alternative process is adapted for analysis, developed from the application of the Weighted Residues Method and Galerkin Method. In addition, numerical simulation is performed in a Finite Element Method computer program to compare the results. According to the analysis of the obtained results, it is verified that the formulations proposed are feasible and there was a satisfactory approximation in relation to the numerical simulation achieved for a considerable portion of the studied arches.
In this work, it was numerically evaluated the influence of the modulus of elasticity parallel to the wood grain on the stability of trussed arches considering a nonlinear geometric analysis based on the Finite Element Method (FEM). This approach was carried out according to a positional formulation of the FEM, considering the structural nodes as main variables of the nonlinear equations system, whose resolution was obtained using the Newton-Raphson method. Altogether, seven arch models were evaluated, consisting of coniferous and hardwoods, with properties defined according to the strength classes of the Brazilian standard ABNT NBR 7190. The subroutines were written in MATLAB to solve the system of nonlinear equations and perform the analysis, including the graphical representation of the results and configurations of the trussed arch. Internal loads and displacements were obtained, in addition to the instability loads of the trussed arches. It was found that the instability load of the arch made with the stiffest hardwood (D60) was approximately equal to 700% of the instability load of the C20 coniferous class and equivalent to 257.8% of the D20 hardwood class-related load. It was verified that the modulus of elasticity significantly influences the nonlinear geometric behavior of the timber trussed arch. Furthermore, the nonlinear geometric analysis allowed calculating more accurate parameters and the verification of the stability of the structural system.
