Resumo: Neste artigo, analiso os valores atribuídos na África do Sul a relacionamentos afetivo-sexuais chamados sugar relationships que são estabelecidos por meio da mediação de páginas na internet e aplicativos para este fim. Trata-se de um arranjo intergeracional no qual homens de mais recursos, conhecidos como sugar daddies ou blessers, engajam-se em intercâmbios afetivo-sexuais-materiais com mulheres mais jovens. Apresento um levantamento da maneira como sugar relationships vêm sendo tratados na grande mídia em paralelo aos esforços de parte da produção local em desafiar os regimes de moralidade que informam os ânimos a respeito desses arranjos. Ao buscar as interconexões entre Brasil e África do Sul, aponto para as maneiras segundo as quais a produção brasileira vem lidando com debates e contextos similares.

Neste artigo, apresentamos e refletimos sobre uma iniciativa que conduzimos junto a disciplinas obrigatórias de antropologia na qual oferecemos a alunas e alunos do Bacharelado em Ciências Sociais da Universidade de São Paulo oficinas de capacitação para leitura de textos antropológicos em língua inglesa. Com o amparo da premissa de que é necessário qualificar estudantes para leitura em idiomas estrangeiros, nesse texto, oferecemos, por um lado, um relato de uma experiência docente piloto e, por outro lado, procuramos contribuir para a reflexão sobre o papel da docência no letramento acadêmico de nossas e nossos estudantes.
Ao perguntarmos para a professora da University of Cape Town (UCT) como deveríamos apresentá-la nas conferências proferidas nos seminários Enlaçando Sexualidades (UNEB) e Numas Apresenta (USP), que ocorreram na primeira semana de setembro deste ano, respectivamente em Salvador e São Paulo, Zethu Matebeni foi taxativa: "sou uma ativista na academia". A resposta não foi surpresa para aqueles que, como nós, conhecíamos as trajetórias de pesquisa e engajamentos desta que se revela antropóloga através de um sensível olhar etnográf-ico, documentarista, roteirista, com formação em sociologia University of Port Elizabeth (atualmente Mandela Metropolitan University) e PhD realizado entre a Yale University (Estados Unidos) e a Witwatersrand University (Joanesburgo), no internacionalmente renomado instituto de pesquisa conhecido como WISER.No período em que estivemos juntas no Brasil, Zethu Matebeni percorreu com profundo interesse e intensidade espaços sociais diversos de ambas as cidades: das relações travadas nos encontros acadêmicos e com grupos de pesquisa, passamos por candomblé, passeios pelos centros históricos, conversas com escritoras da periferia de São Paulo e contatos com alguns trabalhos sociais realizados na região. Em todo o percurso, as comparações entre a África do Sul e o Brasil foram constantes. Suas palestras arrebataram as plateias de ambas as cidades e a entrevista que se segue, complementa em certa medida o texto da conferência que publicamos como artigo neste número em português e em inglês, parte do dossiê "Olhares cruzados para a África: trânsitos e mediações".A entrevista não traduz completamente a intensidade das trocas realizadas, mas apresenta a um público mais amplo parte do cenário e algumas das principais questões e desafios das produções científicas e políticas da África do Sul pós-apartheid sob a lente de seu olhar.
