According to this theoretical perspective and the data, historical time, age at migration, and the conditions under which the migration trajectory developed, show different impacts on the health and quality of life of the elderly, as revealed through analysis of labor experience, disease and accidents, medical service, health treatment, transnational networks, and family formation.
La experiencia migratoria puede impactar las condiciones de salud de las personas migrantes, ya sea durante su desplazamiento, su estancia en el país de destino o cuándo retornan a su lugar de origen. En este sentido, el objetivo de este artículo es ofrecer una revisión y una reflexión en torno a la vulnerabilidad de la población migrante mexicana ante la pandemia del COVID-19. Para tal propósito utilizamos información de registros administrativos de salud además de encuestas sociodemográficas e información hemerográfica. Los resultados indican que los mexicanos radicados en Estados Unidos y aquellos que son deportados por las autoridades migratorias de ese país constituyen una población altamente vulnerable ante el SARS-CoV-2, debido a su condición de migrantes irregulares, así como a otros aspectos vinculados con su perfil sociodemográfico, epidemiológico y laboral.
Este artículo explora el aumento de la migración femenina calificada de México a Estados Unidos en las últimas tres décadas. El objetivo es presentar un panorama general de la inserción laboral de las migrantes mexicanas calificadas en aquel país, desde una perspectiva comparada con sus connacionales varones, las nativas blancas no hispanas y otras inmigrantes. Se usa una metodología mixta que incluye por un lado, un análisis estadístico de los niveles de participación económica y los grupos de ocupación principal; y por otro, un estudio cualitativo que incluyó entrevistas en profundidad con la población estudiada. Se encontró que las diferencias en la inserción laboral de las mujeres migrantes se explican por su nivel educativo, su origen étnico y por las diferencias de género. Las mujeres mexicanas se están integrando laboralmente en situación de desventaja con respecto a las nativas y otras mujeres inmigrantes, como son las provenientes de Asia.
El objetivo de este trabajo es comparar las condiciones de inserción laboral de los trabajadores mexicanos con posgrado tanto en México como en Estados Unidos con el fin de explorar la relación entre las condiciones del mercado laboral mexicano y la migración hacia Estados Unidos. El estudio analiza la correspondencia entre las credenciales académicas de los posgraduados mexicanos y el tipo de ocupa ción que desempeñan, en ambos países, con énfasis en aquellos formados en áreas de ciencias, tecnología, ingeniería y matemáticas (ctim). Los resultados muestran que el mercado laboral mexicano «castiga» a los posgraduados en las áreas de ctim, a los más jóvenes, y ofrece condiciones menos favorables para las mujeres y para los que poseen estudios de doctorado. Como consecuencia de la pandemia del COVID-19, los trabajadores agrícolas en Estados Unidos fueron definidos por el Gobierno del expresidente Donald Trump como “trabajadores esenciales” a pesar de que la mitad de ellos son indocumentados. La mayor parte de estos trabajadores nacieron en México, y tanto los inmigrantes que ya residen en ese país como los que ingresan temporalmente con visas H-2A han continuado laborando para producir alimentos para toda la población. Este artículo analiza la participación laboral de estos trabajadores en Estados Unidos durante la pandemia y las condiciones socioeconómicas y laborales que los hacen especialmente vulnerables a ser infectados por el COVID-19. Los principales hallazgos revelan que, en 2020, los inmigrantes mexicanos, en comparación con el total de trabajadores estadounidenses, tuvieron la participación laboral más alta en actividades económicas consideradas como esenciales. A pesar de haber pasado de la invisibilidad a la visibilidad durante la pandemia, muchos trabajadores constituyen una población altamente vulnerable al coronavirus, especialmente los indocumentados que no cuentan con seguro médico. Asimismo, muchos trabajadores agrícolas poseen distintas comorbilidades, como diabetes mellitus, hipertensión arterial y obesidad, que constituyen factores de riesgo para el COVID-19.
