25 high digestive endoscopies were performed in 18 children with digestive hemorrage or recurrent abdominal pain, finding: four acute ulcers, four erosive duodenitis, four erosive gastritis and thirteen normals. (From these, seven cases were controls).The instrument, the method and the results are described in this study. In front ot these results, it is concluded fiiat this procedure is of great diagnostic usefulness in this specific pathology, easy to perform by an expert endoscopist and inoccuous for the pacient.
Acety Icholinesterase activity was measured in rectal biopsy specimens obtained from 34 children, 12 patients with a previous surgical procedure for Hirschspnmg's disease and 22 patients with chronic constipation. The nietbod and the results are described. It is suggested that the assay of aeetylcholinesterase activity in rec-tal biopsy material is a simple and quick procedure useful in the diagnosis of congenital intestinal aganglionosis.
Megacolon in children: Manometry, histology and histochemistry.Ninety-six anorectftl manometric studies were performed in children with megacolon Sixteen patients had pressure records compatibles with Hirschsprung's disease: in twelve the rectal suction biopsy and study of acetylcholinesterase activity confirmed the diagnosis of aganglionosis.In two pacients with non conclusive manometry, acetylcholinesterase activity was highly positive: in one the diagnosis ofcolonicneuronal dysplasia through the study of succinic dehydrogenase was confirmed.
